- Kandicane55Christchurch, New Zealand33 contributionsInteresting and informative. Also ok for small children. Lots of pictures to look at.The kids loved the part with the animals. It was good to learn what to look out for in the wine. I loved the art gallery. I recommend coming early in your trip to give things more context. Nice to know the history of places you visit.Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten January 3, 2023

The museum which gives a good introduction to the history of Drawin , art, hurricane Tracy and other things. You can also see Sweetheart the largest croc in Australia.Visited August 2022Written January 25, 2023

We visited midweek in the wet season which meant we had a lot of space to relax and enjoy taking our time. The staff were very helpful and the cafe food was lovely.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 25, 2023

Great fun watching the ‘Montages’ exhibition - brilliant cuts and editing. Great art upstairs and saw ‘Sweetheart’ and the boats. Nice drink and snack in the cafe at the end. - Radix7Sydney, Australia198 contributionsAn excellent combination of art gallery and varied museumA must if visiting Darwin, I would say. For a smallish institution the range is remarkable: fine painting collection, natural history display, good temporary art show (the current Tracey Moffatt film collection a coup) and my favourite is the gallery of boats from the Asia- Pacific region, a display too easy to miss on a quick visit. Good cafe and sea outlook too.Visited March 2023Written March 12, 2023

- joniefitz4Ames, Iowa275 contributionsExcellent and a Welcomed Air Condition DestinationDon’t Miss This Museum! It was an included FREE expedition off the Mars Ocean ship. Free typically means, ho-hum. This was not the case earlier today. The museum is well designed and informative. The gift store is NOT to be missed!Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 2, 2023
- Sally B16 contributionsWorth a visit and freeA free way to get to know Darwin and the NT! The museum features Indigenous artefacts, natural history, as well an exhibition on Cyclone Tracy with audio and imagery and ‘Sweetheart’ a stuffed 5.1m croc that had a fondness for boat propellers (before his demise). It is free, staff are friendly and it is a great way to find out more about Darwin and the NT for free! The museum is well worth a visit and is located in The Gardens, a short drive from Darwin CBD.Visited April 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 14, 2023

The special exhibit was a big surprise with the Achie 100 and spent a lot more time in other areas of the Museum this ti thought we would.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 1, 2023
- Debbie HollinsheadWetherill Park, Australia44 contributionsA Museum that had my attentionI'm really not a museum person but this one had my attention. The birdlife, the creatures and the big saltie with all their stories were very interesting. Then there was the bombing of Darwin and Cyclone Tracey all was very good ... a bit of a tear jerker when you read everything that happened and how everyone was effected.Visited May 2023Written May 19, 2023

This museum has many interesting exhibits on Darwin's natural and human history. I enjoyed the megafauna and the Cyclone Tracy exhibits. The highlight for me had to be the Aboriginal art. Two of the galleries featured winners of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards. One gallery focused on this year's winners while another featured past winners. I was impressed by the diversity and quality of the artworks. You can spend several hours here.

MAGNT is an excellent museum with a variety of exhibits for all ages. Cafe and gift shop were worth visiting. Definitely the place to go on hot, humid Darwin day.

Fabulous Telstra Aboriginal Art Award collection from August to February every year. This year was the best ever, amazing works in a variety of mediums. The Museum collection is also interesting, the Cyclone Tracy exhibit wonderful and the collection of boats upstairs is fascinating. Cafe on site and a great gift shop. Darwin Ski Club is across the road if you want an alternative type of meal.

Loved the art gallery, so many different things to see -not just paintings. There is a nice shop, and also an eatery. We did not eat there - just had a drink, but the food all looked good.

Excellent Museum - something for everyone - must see when in Darwin. Not really interested in indigenous art an so I'm glad it was closed.
Cyclone Tracy section was fascinating - reconstructions, artefacts and images, videos & sound recordings. They need to make it a bit bigger and suitable for more people - there was one interactive story telling console but there was only one and could only be operated by one person at a time.
Taxidermy was excellent, fresh, not raggy, mangy or rotting away - might not make the vegans happy.
Boats and historical info was excellent. They need to advertise the Cyclone Tracy section more!

This is a free experience of a well put together museum. 2-3 hours is all that's needed to improve your sense of belonging and understanding of the Top End. For those of us that remember, the Cyclone Tracy exhibit and interactive gallery is a must, but don't neglect the rest of the Museum. The Museum is on the hop/on/hop off bus route to make it even easier.
