Neighborhood: Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.

This beautiful park is filled with colorful flowers, exotic trees and fascinating wildlife. And it’s free!
It’s located on the harbor adjacent to the Sydney Opera House. We found ourselves there after an opera house tour.
My wife and I strolled through the park for three hours and enjoyed it immensely!
There are several free tours and others that cost money.
But you can also download an app that guides you through the park.
Pack a picnic lunch, or eat at one of several cafes in the park.

The Botanic Gardens are such a nice place to visit when in Sydney. It may not rise to the top of your list but as it is so convenient to access when by the Opera House, at least step into the gardens to transit somewhere else but it's definitely a nice stop to make on it's own. We loved the herb/medicinal garden especially. I want to return and do a tour offered by the gardens...perhaps next trip!

Beautiful garden with flowers and lovely birds in the middle of the city. Lotus Pond was empty though when we went.

A lovely but very hot day for a walk through the garden. Most interesting elements are the amazing trees - things you don't see in the states. Lots of great bird life and fun to see families enjoying the garden. Saw two proposals - so clearly that's a thing, and she said yes!

Nicely laid out with superb views of the harbour, well kept specimens and local bird life to enjoy, ideal spot if you’re a bit early for the opera.

Right in the heart of the city, this garden has lots of beautiful vistas and is a great size so lots to see. Of course, we were there in the early summer, so the roses were in bloom (along with everything else) and it was just nice to tour around.

This is a beautiful old garden with spectacular views of Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the bay, and the skyscrapers of the city. There are many paved paths in the garden leading to a variety of cultivated areas, which are beautifully planted and maintained.
This is a great place to stroll for a few hours and enjoy a cool down, since the trees drop the temperature by about 5 or 6 degrees C at least.
Many birds and butterflies filled the gardens when we visited and this was a great relaxing start to our visit to the city.

There is a bus (441 from Queen Victoria Building every half hour), which stop almost at a gate of the botanical gardens in Art Gallery Drive. Or you could stay on the bus and go to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and walk along rather flat by the harbour into the gardens. The Main Gate is in Macquarie Street. Or you could enter just near the Opera House. It depends where you are coming from. I like to catch the bus from QVB because my bus from home stops there and I can get the bus. I think if you haven’t been to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair headland it’s the best place to take pictures of the Ooera House and the Harbour Bridge together and AM is the best time for photographs. From here walk through the gardens for as long as you like. Down on the flat is the lily pond but explore and find the rose gardens and the Greenhouse as well as the performance space (there is often something going on there. The Greenhouse usually has an Art Exhibition on. Many of the trees were planted when Sydney was first settled. The restaurant is very nice but there is also a snack bar or take a picnic! When you have had enough, walk up hill towards the left if you want to catch the bus back to QVB or over to the top right (when you are looking up from the Harbour) and this will take you to Macquarie Street

Can you please tell me if there are enough seats for everyone who buys tickets to the Point NYE? We are a family of 5 and really don't want to line up early as we only have a couple of days in Sydney and want to go sightseeing during the day. Do you recommend a blanket or do you think we can find a table to sit together? thanks!!!

Hi ,
I have 2 questions:
1.Is the botanical garden entry free?
2. Do we need to pay to see Vivid lights inside the park?
Thanks

Hello Annie :)
Yes the entry to the garden is free. And I’m not absolutely sure but if I remember well, the Vivid lights event is free as well ! Enjoy :)
What are the main problems of the garden facing by the visitors?
