Neighborhood: Bondi Beach
An iconic Australian suburb, Bondi Beach is famous for its fantastic beaches and views. Once the domain of backpackers, hundreds of tourists from all over the world descend en masse to Bondi in December ready to enjoy the "Aussie summer". Bondi Beach boasts impressive ocean views all along the many restaurants and bars on Campbell Parade. Wake up early and take a dip in the surf before walking the scenic stretch from Bondi to Coogee Beach. Stroll through the Saturday organic markets in North Bondi or grab some fish and chips and relax in the grassy area opposite the beach. For more upscale cuisine, head down to Hall Street where a range of new eateries have recently opened. Just make sure to save enough energy for the buzzing nightlife Bondi Beach has to offer.

- DurwoodyDallas, Texas434 contributionsIt was nice, BUT not sure what the big deal is...maybe if you're a surfer?Nice beach. It was not crowded the day we went. It was part of a tour we did of Sydney. We had lunch at a restaurant located on the beach and later relaxed here for a short while. The sand was soft, and the water temperature was okay. I'm not a surfer, so I can't address that aspect. Overall, it was a nice beach, but nothing exceptional. What DID work? I don't generally like beer, but the restaurant waiter suggested one popular in Australia (Bundaberg ginger beer) and I loved it! I have found it here at home!Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2023
- Al-ShumbaBedfordshire, United Kingdom495 contributionsA beautiful beach well worth the visitThis beach is stunning! With soft powder white sand which is clean tidy well looked after with life guards and safe areas to swim / surf. The water was clear and cool on a hot day. There are fresh water showers and a changing area and toilet facilities in the pavilion. Al' top tips Catch the 333 bus from Circular Quay in Sydney all the way to the beach.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 7, 2023
- Madeline HCairns Region, Australia150 contributionsBondi BlissI've been a huge fan of the TV sho 'Bondi Rescue' for years & always wanted to visit the famous Bondi Beach. I couldn't believe how magical it is in real life. It was even more enjoyable as we visited on a weekday & there were very few people on the beach. I was able to get photos of some of the most famous scenes from the show, but I wasn't able to get a photo with one of the lifeguards. I will definately be coming back, hopefully when its a little warmer so I can swim in the ocean & possibly dine at Icebergs restaurant.Visited May 2023Written May 26, 2023

I spent a couple hours wondering around checking out Bondi Beach, the cliff walks, the pavilion and the main street. - TRIPADVISEREastbourne, United Kingdom274 contributionsA Must visitCan’t believe I’m actually in Bondi beach after been watching it on tv for so many years. Beautiful, well kept, and lovely walk on sand . Lovely eating places nearby and parking is very easy close by . Definitely worth a visitVisited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 11, 2023
- TinaoverLondon, United Kingdom25 contributionsFamily trip 4 days in BondiThe waverley walk is amazing and very well worth while. I would stay at Bondi Hotel if you can. The cocktails are $14 about £7 and it is open mon-sat till 12 and till late. Closed early on a Sunday. Other bars are open but can be expensive as shots can be $30 each. The staff at bondi hotel are amazing and just across the road from the beach. The Pavillion restaurant breakfast from 930-11am is amazing. The bacon and eggs on toast are fab, as is the yogurt granola (incs liquorice and surprising great). Breakfast including, coffee 2 drinks, 1 granola bowl and 2 bacon eggs toast about £35. This is a contract to 2018 when would have been double even though the exchange rate is about the same 1.8 to pound in 2018 and 1.9 in Nov 23. We went to Coggee Bay in 2018 and that was fab too but prefer Bondi Beach as a little more going on and access to other places is great. Tip - get the 303 bus into Sydney for $20 from the shop. We had 4 trips into Sydney off peak and a trip on the ferry from Sydney to Darling Harbour and back. A bargain for £10. A must. the supermarkets are so much cheaper than 2018, a great surprise. However, if you smoke they are $65 for 25...yes £33. My one son smoked so a bit of a shock, but I agree keep them expensive to discourage smoking. Their local chemists are really cheap so no need to pack suncream (a bucket of factor 50 is £7.....to encourage you to use it, great idea), shampoo etc. Really loved Bondi Beach, so clean and beautiful.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 26, 2023
- jacquitohcAuckland Central, New Zealand818 contributionsBondi fever - Bondi draws the crowdsTook the train and bus to Bondi - head for the beach at Bondi, when we visit Sydney. Beach, glistening ocean still draws the crowds, the life-saver statue is a reminder, though, of caution. The Bondi Pavilion has been updated and has undergone an amazing transformation. Not been to Sydney in a long time, we'll come again soon. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.)Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten November 27, 2023
- 40charlottevEdlesborough, United Kingdom55 contributionsCheck out the icebergs if you want safe swimmingWe took a look at the beach and decided to go to the icebergs instead and then do the coastal walk. Well worth walking along to get to the free pools though rather than paying for the icebergs. The beach was too busy for us but the waves and surf looked good but it wasn’t as spectacular as we were made to believe.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 23, 2023
- Peter BBrisbane, Australia34 contributionsGreat! The photo here is of Tamarama Beach not Bondi Beach. Bondi Beach is a kilometer long. I lived here a long time ago and it has not changed, it is brilliant! If you're in Sydney, you must make the effort to walk on the beach.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 23, 2023
- dennis DTunuyan, Argentina41 contributionsLovely beach with entry level surfinglovely beach though smaller than some pictures portray! Not too many places for such other than the Promede which is excellent and highly recommend. Though I'd been to Sydney 4-5 times previously had never gone since logistics to get there seemed complicated. They're not. Jump on a 333 bus and you're there in 30 minutes. Won't be disappointed!Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 24, 2023

We did the walk from Coogee to Bondi and it is a nice long walk, about an hour. Had lunch at Iceburg Pools (bring ID) and took pictures of the famous pool and beach. Then walked to the beach, nice clean large beach. No need for watershoes, the sand is soft.

Most gorgeous beach with iconic coastal views. You’ll get the best vacation pictures of your life here so head back at sunset. Bondi has a very strong current so keep your sunglasses in your bag or you’ll get hit by a wave and lose them like I did. Be sure to swim between the flags and wear plenty of sunblock. Don’t be deceived by the clouds.

It was very good. Beautiful scenery and vibe. It is hot with no shade so bring sunscreen. And make sure to swim inside the flags

So while the beach itself and the Bondi town is lovely, the crowds are too much for me to take. This starts as soon as you get to the Bondi Junction to get on the bus and continues non stop. It's a pity, as the beach is really nice - somehow the area developed into a tourist trap (to give you an idea, a small bottle of water costs $5).

I watch Bondi Rescue frequently. We heard Manly and it's area is nicer to visit. Everyone has heard of Bondi. We went on a beautiful, warm day on a Sunday in January. We got there around 11 am and spent an hour there. We had our bathing suit on, but the water was a bit cold for us. Tickled to death to see the lifeguard building, lifeguards, surfers, and the beach. The sand is very fine. A real family beach. Lots of activity of little kids to seniors doing lifeguard camp/training . Another thrill was seeing the Iceberg pool. Shark nets and boars keep an eye out for those unwanted sharks. Took a cab VA using a ferry , or bus. Restaurants nearby. A bit touristy, but around 1 pm it started to get very busy.

Great beach, we went on a Monday so it wasn’t super busy. The water was clear, the lifeguards putting up the red and yellow flags always makes us feel safe. Lots of restaurants and shops on the Main Street.

Bondi Beach is iconic, probably the most famous beach in the world. I loved it. People are chilled, beach is great. I was surprised that the sea wasn't as warm as I'd expected. Once you are in the water, it's great. The surf smashes into you and really takes you off your feet. If you have children, they will need you around in the water with them. Great place.

Visited this Iconic beach setting in Sydney. Glad I went, but not as good as Manly Beach. Plenty of shops and restaurants, but a little pricey!

Hey everyone! I’m going down to Sydney in 3 or so weeks to see Taylor Swift and hopefully stop by at Bondi. Is it alright to take photos with the lifeguards as I’ve been a pretty huge fan of them for some years now?

Take your choice of the small brasseries, all the souvenir shops are the same. If you have forgotten something then you will find it along the stretch.

Hi, No you cannot visit the tower as it is for emergencies only but if you are lucky you may catch the lifeguards on patrol on the beach - they are more than happy to stop for a photo. Hope this helps

Is there a public locker room for getting changed/storing personal items near the beach?

Yes there is a full beach changing house. I did not verify lockers, but it would be unusual not to have them. Usually lockers cost $2 Aus, should make sure you have a few 2$ coins

I’m looking at visiting bondi in the next few weeks. What are the conditions, weather and how busy is it’s bondi at the end of March/beginning of April???
Pat B
Croydon, Australia16 contributions
Sydney weather is unpredictable but it wont be cold even if it rains. More humid and steamy, with maybe cooler evenings. Bondi is one of Australias most popular beaches and of course the show Bondi Rescue is on TV so would suggest you have a look at TV before you get here.Weather is Getting cooler so not as busy unless we get a sudden hot day which can happen 30c hot is around 25c average great temperature. Lots of places to eat, pubs, cafes and RSL club at the end of beach called North Bondi is great for food and view from balcony is fantastic, especially sunsets. Two pools at this end if surf is too rough.
