We were delighted to visit this historic cottage which has recently reopened after some important restoration work. Whilst simply furnished and small you do get a real sense of what life was like in the 1860s. It's free to visit and the NCA guides have...More

This is a great place to see how families lived in the past. It is interesting to see the type of tools that were used.

Among all the grand and grandiose memorials dotted around Australia's national capital, Canberra, Blundell's Cottage is a humbler relic from days gone by. It is a stone cottage on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, although when it was built the man-made lake was a...More

A visit to the stone, worker's cottage makes a nice change to the significant monuments and flash buildings that Canberra has become. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and paint a wonderful picture of how life was lived in the 1800s when the current site of...More

From the outside, its a nice bit of history to look at. When we went it didn't seem to be opened anymore, however it may still be.

Probably geared more toward school visits, the cottage presents the life of a rural family in 1800s Australia. The artefacts, displays and stories link nicely to the establishment of Canberra as the capital of Australia. Opening hours are somewhat limited and the fact the building...More

Pretty much like any old house open to the public. Yes it has been lovingly restored but I would not say it offers anything different to other old houses in Australia, just smaller than a lot of them.

Cute, historic but not sufficiently funded. Relys on volunteers to keep it going. What a shame because Canberra's current architecture is so sadly lacking!
