I dont know whether Michelin green guides rate this attraction as "worth a detour" but I would say that with quite a lot of choice of similar mining museums in the area, there is nothing special about this one at Lewarde that justifies a non-fluent...More

Large site with many parts, including museum of daily lives of miners and their families. We arrived later, so no guided tours were available, so we just walked around the are by ourselves. It's quite large.

We visited the museum and the reconstitution of the mine with a guided tour. It was very well put, clear and informative. The conditions of workers are described chronogically as you walk through the installations. It even possible to meet miners that used to work...More

Obviously a very popular school visit, judging by the number of coaches disgorging large numbers of noisy kids and their teachers. However, they all seemed enthusiastic, and the tour through the re-created mine tunnels was segregated for adults only. It was all fairly self-explanatory, but...More

A fascinating insight to mining and the lives of miners in France with something for all ages, the highlight being the guided tour 'down 'the mine to see how mining changed through the ages. A good day out whatever the weather.

If you are anywhere near this museum you must go. The official visit is about one hour but there are plenty of other things to see. It has a nice cafe, shop etc.

A fascinating visit for us and our two daughters (aged 5 and 7). We had lunch at the nice restaurant then had the guided tour before visiting the museum and meeting up with a former miner. It really felt like visiting a different era. Strongly...More

This museum was unique. You learnt a lot about the mines, not only through displays, but by actually getting a tour inside of the mine. When you take the small lift down into the mine, wearing a helmet and listening to demonstrations of the noise...More

The museum is a great reconstruction of the lives and works of the mining people - following all the steps of the technological development. The guide (in our case Anne Claire) was amazing
