The sign in El Pueyo de Araguas says 13.5 km to the Real Monasterio de San Victorian, a monastery that dates from perhaps 700 AD, but was massively rebuilt from rubble in the 1990s. So it's not exactly "pristine," or even necessarily much like it would have been a couple of hundred years ago. Still the site is gorgeous, and this MAY be (???) the oldest monastery in Spain. That's the claim, anyway, and it's worth giving it some thought. The towns (well, villages) that you drive through on the way are charming, and some offer places to stay (we stayed at Casa Coronas and enjoyed ourselves), but it's definitely a bit of a drive to get there, and up some steep and twisting roads. But along those roads there were plenty of signs of cows and sheep having traveled recently, and the landscape was as beautiful as any near-Pyrenees place can be. Water was flowing, birds (raptors and scavengers) soaring. Pretty magical, and we were the only ones there.

Very nice drive from Ainsa, about 30 minutes, with a beautiful landscape. San Victorian itself was closed when we got there, so we only walked around. We got a recommendation to hike 50 min (one way) from San Victorian to the ancient caves of the monks (Ermita de la Espelunga), but had no time for that

Amazon views and nature all around. Perfect for a picnic in the area, a hike or even a short walk. The road to get there is very narrow with lots of curves but if one takes it slow and easy there is no problem really.

One travel book said this was 6K from Ainsa. So we drove the 6K to El Pueyo de Araguas, only to see a sign that it was another 12K away so we didn't go
