I've been to this church so many times before and yet it never ceases to fascinate me everytime I visit it. Today I brought some friends along. They were all impressed by its beauty, architecture, history and cultural significance. It's quite rare to have a church in the Philippines that is considered not only as a national cultural treasure, but also as a UNESCO world heritage site. It's very accessible from Iloilo City (some 45 minute drive) and there is no entrance fee to pay to enter it. Definitely worth-visiting and one place Filipinos should be proud of!

The Church of Miag-ao is strikingly ornate and imposing outside; inside, it is comforting and humbling. These words do not do justice to the splendor and the magnificence of the place, as it really is a jewel.

Miag-ao Church was the foremost attraction I wanted to visit in Iloilo simply because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was inscribed in 1993 together with San Agustin Church in Manila, Santa Maria Assunta Church in Ilocos Sur, and Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte as the Baroque Churches of the Philippines.

Miag-ao Church is most famous for its façade that consists of a bas-relief showing a coconut tree held by St. Christopher carrying the Baby Jesus on his back. The rest of the façade includes native flora and fauna.

We had driven for almost two hours so the girls were clamoring to use the restrooms. We, the boys, went to pray inside the church first. I was most surprised here since the interior of Miag-ao Church is one of simplest I have ever seen of a Catholic church. I was reminded here of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, Italy whose relatively simple interior stood in contrast to its ornate exteriors so as not to distract churchgoers from their prayer inside the church.

This church is my favorite of all the churches we visited on 2.22.2020,

What I like most are the trees and leaves sculpted on its front facades. I wondered how long it took them to complete these intricacies!

One of the most beautiful heritage church of the Island, a few hour from city on the way to Antique. Catch a view of the peaceful and solemn place of worship. Light a candle and place for prayers. Don’t miss this on your next trip. Well recommended.

Something good to visot when in route from Iloilo to Antique, it is a very old heritage church located in Visayas. The design is a proof of it's age in history in the country.

The Miagao Church is one of a group of four Baroque Churches of the Philippines selected for UNESCO recognition. Miagao Church is an outstanding example of the Philippine interpretation of the Baroque style, and represents the fusion of European church design and construction with local materials and decorative motifs to form a new church-building tradition. Here, the fusion of styles is seen in the illustrative reliefs where religious figures are dressed in local traditional clothing, and also in the construction of the bell towers. The use of local stone reveals adaptation to local building materials and style. Additionally, a UNESCO qualification is the general state of preservation of the church, and Miagao has maintained that integrity and authenticity. In short, this is a world-class history monument and well worth the visit, experience, and education.

The reason became clear to me why this church was included in the list of the UNESCO Heritage Sites in the country when I visited it last month. Its architecture and the bass reliefs on its facade are truly impressive! I can't imagine how they were able to transfer this church from its former location to its actual site block by block! The interior is also very beautiful and conducive to prayer and meditation. Sometimes the main entrance is closed, but the side door is always open. The yellowish color of its walls are reminiscent of a rather sad history when men of certain age were forced to work in the construction of the church and give their share of eggs. Yes, this church is very rich not only architecturally and artistically speaking, but also historically. It would be good to do some readings first before you visit this church so as to be able to appreciate it more.
