The buildings at Steinsland stand today as a rare example of a «cluster» farm settlement. This form of rural community was common in coastal Norway until the 1850's, when patterns of land ownership changed and houses were moved to locations on the individual farms. Over 2000 objects can be seen at Steinsland, and the optimistic atmosphere of the 1920's is unmistakeable. The barn, built in 1922, contains a permanent exhibit focusing on the Saami people in the municipality of Skanland. The storehouse, built in 1939, is set up as a shop. Here you can purchase old-fashioned sweets and other items. The main house, known as Aronstua, is beautifully furnished in its original style. So, leave the main road and enter the past, to a world full of peace and tranquility. Open by appointment.
