The castle itself is already nice to visit from outside. The park area leading up to it as well as around it, is nicely arranged and worth seeing.
Inside you have an exhibition, mostly about local artist Albin Egger-Lienz, which isn't huge, but actually very interesting and engaging. Supposedly they also keep changing aspects and pieces, so you can discover new info if you come again later. Additionally they display a few different artists as well and there is a small part about bats. All in all really nice.

This is fortress of the counts of Gorz presides over Lienz. It’s about a 15 - 20 minute walk from the old town, and most of the walk can be done along the river. We did not visit the museum as we went after hours. We strolled around the castle ground and got to see the castle from the outside.

Our party of 5 arrived just after lunch and found the castle easily with plenty of parking. We were able to take our time inside and check out all the art and displays. A highlight of our trip for sure.

A very nice place to learn history, enjoy a bird eye view of the city and visit the art exhibits. There is also a cafe on the site.

Its more an art gallery than a castle tour. I'm no art fan but I actually really liked the art. Its a little hard to get around if you aren't able bodied (being a very old building) but you see enough of the castle as well and climb the tower so you get a good look around. Austria is always well kept, its just too beautiful to believe.

After trudging out from Lienz town centre I was a bit disappointed with what I found. The building and location are great but rather than the museum I had been expecting it's mostly given over as an art gallery for a local artist I'd never heard of. There is a café/restaurant and a well stocked shop but even getting there may be difficult if you are less able bodied. once inside its a maze of stairways, the highlight for me was a climb up the tower although views are somewhat limited.

Museum was very well equipped with lots of local artifacts. If you have the energy, there is a tall tower you can climb that will give you a great overview of the town and surrounding valley.

We walked from the city centre along the river to this hillside fortress. It felt incredibly old and atmospheric especially with the dour paintings of Albin Egger-Lienz. Sadly there were few other visitors but in a way that made it more special for us.
