About
Windy Creek Estate, formally Cobanov Wines, was first established in 1937 by Ante Cobanov. He had left Croatia in 1924 and spent 13 years cutting sleepers in the south-west to enable him to put a deposit on this Swan Valley property. In 1937 he bought the fertile coastal plain land that is still the core of the family business and sent for his wife and sons. They grew grapes for dried fruit production but made a small amountof wine for the Perth immigrant community. The family has continued to produce wines for 80 years and we have been selling fruit to other wineries for approximately 40 years. The Windy Creek Estate label was first released in 1980. Tony Cobanov, the current winemaker, entered the industry as a third generation winemaker and is very passionate about the Swan Valley and its lifestyle. He has 3 sons Joshua, Callum and Rohan so it is a distinct possibility that this will become a 4th generation business and he can’t think of anything better than that.

One of the best bars too, long wooden, curved, laminated panels, amazing thing. Would go back if I didn't live interstate!Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 9, 2023
- Jeff_8mileMelbourne, Australia283 contributionsVery pleasant surpriseThis winery was a recommendation from the local visitor information centre and it was one great recommendation. We were made very welcome by Ruth and after being very surprised by the range of wines and the prices, were very impressed by the quality. We also visited a few big name wineries in the Swan Valley with prices twice what Windy Creek charge but the quality was the same. So, great value for money, saved by someone who is part of the story, makes for a very compelling view of this winery. Wish we had a few like this in Victoria.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 7, 2023
- DenbighRdPerth, Australia3 contributionsSwan Valley tradition at its very bestI don’t usually write reviews but that of Nicole of Canberra is so absurd I feel compelled to respond. The wines at this place are extraordinary for the quality/price rapport, as evidenced by consistently excellent results at the Swan Valley Wine Show and their prices relative to other valley wines - about half if you buy a box. Anyone who would describe the wines as mediocre has no understanding of wine. The ladies who show the wines are in my experience always friendly and helpful, and the tasting area , which looks out over the very pretty vineyard, is true to the cultural background of the valley. I have been visiting the valley since my student days and Windy Creek is close to the top of all the little wineries that have so delighted me over many years. I can’t recommend the place highly enough.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten January 25, 2024

Large range of nicely done wines, at very good prices. Definitely worth a look, we had lovely service from Shirley, and the complimentary cheese and crackers was a nice touch.

This was part of our wine tour and we enjoyed the tasting in the cabin and hearing about the winery's history and development. A relaxed way to spend an hour or so

We visited this winery as part of an Out and About Wine tour and were impressed by the quality af their reasonably priced wine. We will be ordering a couple of cases as delivery to Sydney is only $22 a case.

Great wines at amazing prices. Excellent, friendly and knowledgeable service from Ruth who couldn't do enough for our group of 10 friends. We had a wine tasting ($5 pp accompanied by yummy cheese and biscuits), then moved out into the relaxed and picturesque grounds where we had a long lunch with our own picnic food, having bought some wines for lunch. Of course, we couldn't go past loading up on some of those great wines to take home too. Thank you Ruth and staff, we'll be back!

Having a laugh with the boss, Ruth, and enjoying the awesome wine at a ridiculous price. Most $12 a bottle. I like my wine, this was unbelievable. And on top of that you can bring your own food, pucnic, and as long as you buy wine, you can eat outside in the fantastic outdoor area. I would highly recommend you buy some wine, and also go there for a picnic. Amazing.

Great wines, lovely hosts, relaxed and beautiful surroundings. I make this one of my regular stops on each visit to the Swan Valley. The price of wines are extremely reasonable for the quality. And the complimentary cheese just adds that little extra to the whole experience.
