Very special experience, very cold indeed!!! It was below 5°C inside there + very high humidity therefore after an hour spent inside I got almost frozen! Cant imagine how army corps could cope with such environment... Its definitely worth to make a stop high there...More

This is an excellent museum and quite a surprise. I don't think that the leaflet does the fortress element justice. Access to and from the fortress can be quite time consuming. The "metro" (small funicular) taking you up to the level of the fortress only...More

This place has been kept as a secret for a long long time and has been transformed into a museum just 3 years ago. We have combined the visit with a trip to Bellizona which is only 1hr drive in the afternoon. This is a...More

This was once the main fortress in the Swiss Alps and had to protect the San Gottardo pass road during WW2. You can go there by post bus from Airolo or by car. It is situated along the old road. With the big sign it...More

Was expecting a quick call when we stumbled across this on a road trip. It has only been open a few months, hence the reason why I, a seasoned Swiss resident had not heard of it. Entering a cold dark tunnel for 100m before rounding...More
