We went with friends and Reading about the runic ristning is a must to understand the era it's from. Interesting visit. Just wish there were more interesting items around that area.

I had recently read the Saga of the Volsungs, so I was very interested in visiting this rock carving about Sigurd and the dragon. It is well preserved and easy to see.

It's not easily accessible but a must-see when in the neighbourhood. Very famous and historically interesting.

Now, I've studied this sort of thing at university. Maybe I'm just blasé or I've seen too many of those, but I wasn't overly impressed by this. There are a couple of small signs, in English and Swedish, explaining the runes and the imagery, and...More

A fun place to stop and visit if you find yourself in the area, it's private, quiet, no gates, no guards, it's free, and 1000 years old!

This site is definitely worth a visit if you are nearby and interested in Viking history. There are runes on both runestones and carved into rocks, and this one is carved directly into the rock. There are easy signs to follow to the sight, ample...More
