Overview

The Meiningen Theatre is among the theatres with the richest tradition in Germany. Director's theatre was born here in the 19th century, under Duke George II. Today, the programme includes drama theatre, musical theatre in original language, concerts, ballet and puppet theatre, as well as a wide offer for children and youth. The theatre restaurant is the perfect place to end an evening. Guided tours of the building are possible, regardless of whether you attend a performance or not.

A Great Reputation Confirmed!

The reputation of the theater is wide spread and well deserved. The building facade is pretty standard. The house is relatively small, some 500 seats. The interior is rather attractive. There are no bad seats. The acoustics are excellent. We saw the Donizetti opera 'Don...More

Jewel of a theatre

Beautiful small theatre with a reputation for interesting productions. We saw Nutcracker in the main theatre and a new opera, Anya Seventeen, in the studio.

A Very Special Theatre

Meiningen is special because of its role in the development of modern theatre craft. We could not tour the inside because they were closed for the Summer. However the museum of the theatre near the Schloss Elizabethenburg was open.
