The Parish Church of Our Lady in Malta is a peaceful and stunning landmark, perfect for a quiet moment of reflection. The architecture is remarkable, with intricate details and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Inside, the ornate altar and beautiful stained-glass windows are captivating.
Situated in a charming part of town, the church is easily accessible and offers a sense of serenity amidst Malta's bustling streets. Whether you're religious or simply enjoy historic sites, this church is well worth a visit. A true gem that showcases Malta’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

When I lived in Spinola Bay, I would go to this church for the 11 am Mass since it was in English. The parish provides different leaflets at the back so that those who go to Mass can follow in their own languages; the regulars go around before the 11 am Mass to make sure that all members of the congregation have the leaflet in English is that is their preference. Since I was in that area for 3 months, I became familiar with others who were regulars, too, and we would smile in recognition of each other.
If one is used to Jesuit Masses, which tend to be 45 minutes because the priests usually have to fit the Mass to a school schedule, then this parish church is the one for you: the priests aren’t Jesuit but Carmelite, they generally give good homilies, and they do have to be mindful that the 10 am Mass needs to be finished in time for those members of the congregation to be out for the 11 am Mass, and the 11 am celebrant has to be mindful that there’s another Mass at noon. So these also are 45-minute Masses.
The church itself is beautiful, and some who come into the church between Masses aren’t there for Mass but quickly to take photographs of the interior between services since one doesn’t take photos during a service unless it’s a wedding customarily. My photos attached to this review are from before or after Mass of the interior and of the statues that rotate sometimes according to the liturgical season. These huge statues are also sometimes carried around the neighborhood to celebrate Good Friday or Easter in a short procession that stops traffic in the area, so be forewarned about that possibility. The exterior of the church is impressive—neo-Gothic, I believe—and there are lovely views from its steps of the bay and nice places to grab a coffee or meal nearby. I usually stopped by a coffee shop closer to Spinola Bay on my way back from church. If you wish to see the interior of the church, just stop by on a Sunday about 8:45, 9:45, 10:45, or 11:45 and look around for 10 minutes. Or stay for the 11 am Mass to enjoy the services if you understand English!

It’s pretty on the outside. But inside is very plain compared to other churches. And they are only open during mass.

When we went we had the fortune of being there during a firework show. We were able to take stunning pictures and make videos of it.

well laid out church with frequent services. The services are held in Maltese however this should not put you off since all should know what is going on.

I was staying at the hotel opposite the front of church, I did enjoy hearing the bells ring at multiple times of the day, plus Sunday morning and also a wedding.

Parish Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is beautiful both on the exterior and the interior. If you like taking pictures, be sure you go in the afternoon otherwise the sun will be in the wrong location for decent exterior pictures.

Unable to have a look inside- i suppose your meant to go when the mass is on - it looks a bit out of scale and in need of a lot of maintenance as with all the stone churches, I suppose it’s not the outside that brings in the money it’s the inside.

A really attractive and amazing church. I passed many times and stopped to take it in each time. I didn’t manage to catch it when it was open and times were hard to find.
