The current church is built on the ruins of an early 12th century Roman stone church. At one time the church was transformed into a residence for the marine painter Johan Bennetter (1822-1904). Large sections of the church were demolished during World War II. The church was rebuilt and restored in 1995. Today the church is very popular for weddings and concerts. Open for guided tours every day in the sommer months. The church is closed for tours when booked for weddings.

Very nice place to get away from the city noise. However, there is no public transportation so a car is a must. Bring food and enjoy the quiet and clean nature.

Stumbled into this place on a walk to Sola Beach. The church is very picturesque and has some interesting history behind it. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

A quaint little church with glass replacing some of the walls. Nice views over the fields down to the sea. Not much to see but worth a stop if you are nearby.

This is an very old and historic place. The restauration is superb and creates a very nice atmosphere. If you can plan ahead and understand Norwegian, it is really recommeded to enjoy a service (preacher) in those pre-planned ones. Also, if you like to marry...More

Rebuild by Architect Louis Kloster. Small stone Church fronting the wild North Sea. If you are there during desember it is the best place to join a consert with Astrid Kloster singing Christmas Hymns

As one travels around Rogaland in Norway there are really quite a number of signposts alerting the driver to ancient remains of varying types. Coming from UK as I do, and having visited most of the major ancient historical sites, I have been consistently disappointed...More
