Stopped at the big Kauri tree - seen it lots of time but it still amazes me. It's a short flat walk from the side of the road - and it's free! You can't drive past and not stop. We had no trouble with the...More

We are so fortunate that this small piece of the great kauri forests that once extended all over the top of the North Island of New Zealand were saved from the mindless destruction of chopping down the forests to make pastures. These forests are so...More

Of course the Waipoua forest houses the amazing Kouri trees with there history and legends. The immensity and overwhelmingness of these trees have to be seen to be experienced. Memorable forever.

To be there is to be there, this is a huge piece of living NZ history, with iconic Kauri trees that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, roads are windy but add to the magic.

It's busy, which does detract, but if you find a park on the road and walk a few minutes up the path you'll see the magnificent Tane Mahuta. If you've travelled through any northern hemisphere redwood forests you might be a little underwhelmed. I still...More

These magnificent trees are humbling. The Forest oozes with life land strength. The walk to giant Tane Mahuta takes only 5 minutes and you'll never be the same again.

If you appreciate nature, definitely take the time to see the ancient Kauri trees, the magnificent tree ferns and the abundant bird life in the Waipoua Forest. It's like going back in time!

No entry fee! And as far as I know most people do their own thing, but of course there may be guided tours that we didn't know about. Enjoy - the trees are really beautiful.
