Ayazma Cave - Ayazma Mağarası (Holy Water Cave) 2018 Ayazma Cave (Turkish: Ayazma Mağarası) is located in the Ereğli district of Zonguldak Province. The icon of Virgin Mary, the holy water ‘ayazma’ was common feature for both churches. In the inner courtyard of the monastery, the sacred water drips from the rock above and there is a small brook at the bottom of hollow where the churc h was built. Herakles Cave - Cehennemağzı Mağarası (Door of the Hell) 2018 Cehennemağzı Mağaraları, Zonguldak ili, Kdz.Ereğli İlçesi, İnönü mahallesinde (eski adı Ayazma - kutsal su anlamındadır) bulunmaktadır. Bu bölge Antik dönemin Acheron Vadisi olarak bilinmektedir. Church Cave - Kilise Mağarası (St. Nicholas Cave) 2018 The story of Hercules and Cerberos: there are 3 caves and second one is more fascinating with a tight entrance and small pool inside. The other two caves are important for being used as a church by first christians communities in Anatolia. Caves are just walking distance from city center.

3 nearby caves worth a quick look. Two of them have inside ponds - not huge caves at all and the middle cave has very steep steps. Takes about an hour to see all 3.

Three caves in the center of Ereğli. Entrance fee is 5 TL per person. I liked the pond inside Cehennemağzı. There are info tables in English to read about their history.
