We went here last August 2019 for my birthday celebration. We flew at Cebu just because of this Kawasan falls. My elder sister just told me this paradise. I was amazed because of its natural falls. The fresh water that hugs our skin as we swim. Also the trekking that we had done. Jumping over the high up to the deep of the falls was adventurously unforgettable! We hope to get back here soon!

Kawasan Falls is a must see place in Cebu. This place is 3-4 hours away from the airport. The place is magnificent- green water, refreshing swim, and connected to nature. Prepare yourself for a maximum of 15-20 minutes hike from the main road. Bring your own water and rent a cottage for 500 pesos. This place is highly recommended to all!

My husband loves all water activites and I wanted to join him in this canyoneering experience, but as I dont like being under water (which includes jumping in the water), and having read several reviews that there are alternatives for non-jumpers, I decided to give it a shot. First of all, my advice for all participants of tours is to clarify what is included in the tour price. Our guides of the tour asked for extra payments even for a locker. Then there was possibility to use zip line for extra charge 500 pesos per person, and unfortunately we did not have enough money with us. Snorkelling shoes also were available for rent. So, take money with you (there are also snack shops available during the tour, even with grilled meat!). Second lesson was to take water with us, as it takes a while before you get to the activity from Moalboal, then you have some time before going on the tour and to get to the river there is approx. 30 minutes long walk in heat. We bought water on our way to the river in one of the shops. Then take only the necessities with you - we had clothes to change after the experience (good idea, as then you can change wet outfit before having lunch with your group and heading back to Moalboal), some money for snacks (good idea), GoPro with floaty handle (good idea to have floating accesories), personal medicine. We packed all of this except cothes in a waterproof bag and for extra safety plastic bag you use for liquids when going through airport security. Despite the precautions our money was a bit wet after all jumps :) And we saw a guy with a wet passport, so do not rely too much on waterproof bags. Plan your outfit - I had a swimsuit, long strechy yoga pants and a T-shirt under safety west, as well as snorkeling shoes. Overall I was happy with my outfit, except the footwear. My husband had trekking shoes and it was way more comfortable, as the river has rocks beneath all the time and after 30 minutes of climbing on the rocks you wish you had shoes with a proper sole. On the jumps (and avoiding them). Almost all jumps could be avoided by alternative path near the jump. The guide clearly instructed on the alternative path. However, there were two places when I could not avoid jumping in the water - in the beginning of the tour and a bit later. On these two occasions I had to jump in the water from approx.1 m height. For me it was doable. The guide told me where exactly to jump and my husband held me stright after the jump and pulled me in the right direction while I was trying to understand what just happended. I am really happy I did this trekking, the jungle and falls are beautiful, and overall it was nice experience. I wish I had proper information in advance what to expect. Unfortunately most of the videos from canyoneering are hero-like with all the crazy jumps and it is difficult to adopt an informative decision, if you are not that into jumping.

Was one amazing experience from start to the end. If you have family it’s a great bond time. Fun for everyone even if your not into jumping. Worth every penny you must try.

No need for guides as the trail is well established and only 1km or 15min from the main road (bus drop-off) and/or the registration area. The lowest level of the falls is where most tourist/people go as there is a bamboo raft (300 Php) that can be rented to pass over the falls. On the 2nd level there is a spot where one can jump ala tarzan and bamboo raft as well, the uppermost levels are the exploratory part for quite a few minutes of trek and shorter cascade but wide pools.

There are cottages available on the lowest level and the 2nd level where lunch or food can be bought. There are also lodging for those who wanted to spend a night, life vest can also be rented (50 Php)

From Cebu City, about 3.5 hrs by bus and 15min trek. Best explored in the early morning, possible to see all levels within a half day and be back the city for dinner.

What makes this waterfall one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Philippines is not so much the waterfall itself, but the lovely clear blue water below. The water is cool and clean and feels very refreshing to swim in.

We stayed a night at Matutinao Beach Resort which is right across from the entrance of the falls and woke up before 7am in the morning to have the falls all to ourselves before the rest of the crowds arrived.

There is a 40PHP entrance fee per person and it will cost you 300PHP for a bamboo raft ride. We were able to take pictures standing on the bamboo raft without having to pay but not sure if this is technically allowed. The bamboo raft ride will take you right under the falls and you will feel just how strong the force of the falls are! They will also help you take lots of pictures under the falls so up to you if you consider this worthwhile.

We also tried the canyoneering here on a different day. We paid 1000PHP per person with MCM canyoneering (which included lunch, life vest, guide, bamboo raft ride and entrance fee). Our rate was a bit cheaper because we came during the storms so we may not have been able to do the whole course. The whole canyoneering trip in total took about 2 hours and you will either start or end up at the falls (our group started at Kawasan Falls to try and avoid other canyoneering groups). There was the opportunity to do 3 jumps (from about 7 metres, 10 metres and 12 metres) as well as a rope swing which was cool! Our tour felt more like a bushwalk with some cliff jumps as opposed to canyoneering (they didn’t even provide us with helmets and I felt like we easily could’ve done the walk ourselves)… not sure whether all the tours are like this. Make sure you bring your GoPro with waterproof casing for canoyoneering and wear aqua shoes.

Regardless, whether you plan on going canyoneering or just seeing the falls, make sure you pay Kawasan Falls a visit!

Nature has given us a beautiful waterfall to experience and enjoy. Unfortunately, it is being abused at an alarming rate.

If you're looking for pure nature tripping trek, this is not for you.

The site is littered with trash. Some trash have found their way to the river. No one cares to clean them up.

Everybody is so busy making a buck out of the tourists that nobody cares about the garbage filling out of the bins and plastic bottles strewn along the path.

The place is overly touristy. The place offers cheap food and cheap rides.

An effective Ecotourism plan should be implemented here.

Our group of 7 booked a canyoneering tour with Island Trekking and we had a marvelous experience. Firstly, they will advise you to leave leave almost everything behind, heed their advice. The only thing we needed was our GoPro and ONE phone (in water safe case). We were provided life vests and helmets. We all opted to wear board shorts (not a requirement but you will be sliding down rocks so more apt to ruin your bathing suits). Some of us opted to wear rash guards as well, I debated the benefits of the rash guard because the water is cold, not freezing but not warm because it’s moving and in a canyon. The rash guard adds to the cold, my gfs wearing tanks were not as cold as I was. Also, Water-shoes! Worth their weight in gold. Be prepared to muster up the courage to jump from 6 meters, 8 meters, 10 meters, and finally 13 meters! It’s exhilarating and the guides were awesome at not rushing and giving alternative ways down if necessary. Total time canyoneering was 3 hours, in which we did not feel rushed at all. Yes there will be other groups but we had areas to ourselves long enough to secure individual shots and group shots without other people in the pics. We reserved a table at the falls, not necessary but best vantage point for viewing the falls if that’s something you care for (300pesos). The walk down from the main falls to the lower two proved to reinforce our gratitude for canyoneering. The lower two falls were PACKED and the path ways were not as serene. Lots of vendors on the way out, we nabbed some hand rolled ice cream, it was delicious (have patience though, it takes time).

We were there last Nov 19,2017 and we're blessed with a sunny weather, the water was what it looked like in the photos I've seen!

The Kawasan falls (the biggest one) itself was a bit disappointing to me as it was full of people but what do you expect really when it is the main attraction 😅

The Canyooneering was definitely the BEST PART!! we started at quarter to 12 nn as we fid the whale shark watching at Oslob earlier in the morning. Taking the hike/walk down to the start of the canyoneering took 25-30mins for us, maybe we can finish it earlier if not for the girl in front of us who was wearing a strap-like sandals which made it hard for her to trek as it was muddy&slippery at the end.

Tip 1: wear comfortable closed tennis/hiking shoes!!

There are 7 jumps to be made all throughout the trip, the highest at 60 ft I believe as the last one which is at 75ft was closed down because it was too dangerous and our tour guide said someone died there.

Tip 2: be careful always!! And always follow your guides and wait for them to assist you. Once our guide let my friend to go down this little waterfall and because i was so excited i jumped right at it without waiting for my turn and i hit a rock and I still have the bruise, a week later.

Tip2.5 : Trust the guides. They know if there are rocks, if it's shallow/deep, where to step, etc. just wait for your turn! Lol

Tip 3: bring money & snacks if it's not included in your tour package. There are food stalls in the middle of the trip and this activity sure requires a lot energy so you gotta eat and drink. The cheese hotdog on table#1 was the bomb!! Idk if we're just really hungry but it was really delicious! 😭 you should try it!

If you find the food stalls, that's where the first high jump takes place. Tbh, I spent a couple mins regretting why I took this trip, etc --I almost cried really-- before I did the jump. It was so scary and liberating!!! I loved it tho!!

The 40ft jump was sadly my last because I landed badly on it I struggled to breathe for maybe 30seconds. I was terrified for my life I didn't dare do the 60/65ft jump but my friend did and she said it was so scary and exciting! She loved it! We're both thrill seekers so we definitely loved this experience although all our energy was drained and had to take a 4hr bus to the airport feeling like a zombie.

I would be back to Kawasan for sure but not the Canyooneering anymore as for me, once is enough. I would like to see Kawasan without the crowd so I wanna go early in the morning next time :)

I heard it was very nice place and i would like to see it. When i have been there I thought i would regret if i didn't. I can not describe in words how wonderful place it is. Also the distance was about 20 minutes walking but you are not bored. When you arrive at the falls is just magic. You can swim there but also you can rent a raft with driver to guide you under the falls. Do not forget to ask for a better price. They asked us 900php (almost 17€) but we did it in half price. You must experience it..
