The six kilometer round trip walk is the perfect counter part to all of the eating one does in Kinsale. We did this walk on each of our two stays and really enjoy the history and the beautiful views from the hill tops.

The old fort ruin is just that a ruin, it’s a steep uphill walk and there are no views of Kinsale from the stone ruin but as you walk up and around. The Charles Fort is by far the most imposing with great views and...More

More of a ruined fort than Charles Fort, but lovely for it. It's a 40 minute walk from Kinsale, there is a pub just before the fort to quench your thirst. The ruins leave quite a lot to the imagination but the view over to...More

If you like ruins, you'll love this. If not, off with you to the establishment favourite, Charles Fort. Do NOT make the walk up, look around and declare - but it's a ruin! That's the whole point! Note that the outer wall is fully grown...More

Its a ruined fort up on a hill. Easy walk from the beach. There are many like this in Ireland. I would recommend if you are at the beach, but would prefer the walk the other way to Charles Fort if you were in the...More

If you go to see this Fort be aware that you have to walk up unpaved, muddy inclines to get to it. If you have any issues with mobility I would not recommend going to see the Fort. Once you get up to the fort,it...More

Nice walk up to the fort. You can’t actually go into the fort itself and we could only find one information sign for the place, which was interesting but would have been nice to see more. There are cool little tunnels you can walk in...More

Drove out to the fort, parking was a bit of a challenge as it gets busy and it’s free. Once parked walked up to the fort and enjoyed views back over the marina and then out to the bay with Charles Fort on the other...More
