About
We are a family run interpretive centre, just off the main road(R600)between Clonakilty and Timoleague/Kinsale).We are also located on the Wild Atlantic Way. We are open from Mid June to Mid September. At the centre we give presentations interpreting the life and times of Michael Collins. We begin with an audio visual presentation showing all the places connected with Michael Collins in West Cork, we also have a second audio visual consisting of archive footage. The most unique part of the presentation is our live lecture which is conducted by an expert historian who gives an account of the 'Big Fella's' life from 1906 until his death. We also have a full scale replica of the Ambush site in Beal na mBlath. We also do private Michael Collins tours.

- Martin H1 contributionA must see for anyone passing through. This was a real highlight of our trip, would have stayed longer than the 2 hrs only for we had something else booked. The knowledge and presentation was excellent and very engaging. Highly recommended. The tour is only twice a day though so plan ahead.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 15, 2023
- NicolaSallins, Ireland67 contributionsA must do attractionA fantastic experience. Ran by a very knowledgeable husband and wife . We were a group of 5 adults and 4 children . All very interested in the experience and hearing all about our Irish history. Youngest child is 5 and wasn't very interested but Dolores made sure that I didn't miss out and helped to keep him entertained while she filled me in on the history. Opened up the museum for us and allowed is to walk around before the big group . Very accommodatingVisited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 16, 2023
- Bridget G1 contributionMust see! This is an amazing centre & well worth the visit. Tim & Dolores are so knowledgeable and welcoming. We really couldn’t recommend it more. It was a real highlight of our holiday. It also has a bit of a cross over with the Seven Sisters series for any fans of that as a lot of the inspiration for the later books are based on information found there!Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 16, 2023
- Nigel C1 contributionAn authentic historical experience. This is a amazing place for anyone interested in the story of Irish history and that of Michael Collins. The staff have an immense intimate knowledge of the subject. As they are direct descendents of those evolved at the time. The exhibits here are all well worth looking at. An excellent experience.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 23, 2023

- John O BrienCharleville, Ireland2 contributionsTime worth spending and enjoyingJust visited the Michael Collins Centre. It was like stepping back in time to learn and hear of the people and the times. Tim Crowley helped to bring the history of Michael Collins to my three children aged 8 10 and 12 in a way that captures an epic time and an epic Man. The centre is a must visit and One west Cork and Ireland are lucky to have.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 9, 2023

- Escape794103London, United Kingdom78 contributionsExcellent, don't miss it!Engaging, fun, interesting and great value for money, VERY well worth a visit. YOu go inside a small but interesting museum and Tim gives a wonderful talk about Michael Collins and also highlights many of the things to see in the museum. He is a great storyteller and really engages you. There's also a reconstruction of the scene where Michael Collins was killed, to back up Tim's theories about his killing, and a non-gory reconstruction of the execution yard at the jail. I left feeling I knew so much more about Michael Collins and what is more had a real interest in him after this visit.Visited August 2023Written August 13, 2023

Tim was a brilliant guide, he was extremely knowledgeable, we were blown away by the original documents and possessions owned by Michael Collins like his briefcase. Tim was also really informative when giving advice on where to go and what to see in the area, as well as information about the commeration celebrations on the following days. He gave us lots of time afterwards to ask questions and couldn't have been nicerVisited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten August 26, 2023

We visited Clonakilty in October and the centre was closed (off season). However, an email to the centre (Tim Crowley) offered a quick response and we booked a private tour for our party of five. We drove in our car and Tim drove in his. We stopped at four locations and learned about every phase of Michael Collins’ life. It was 3.5 hours and was one of the best tours we had in Ireland. My 8 year old son enjoyed it and Tim kept his attention. Tim was incredibly knowledgeable and very hospitable.

Tim and Delores Crowley have a gem of a place in the Michael Collins Centre. We ere there with a large tour group but were treated like close friends. Delores baked soda bread over an open peat fire. We were treated to songs and stories of the people living in the area, both past and present, and the history of Michael Collins was presented with such enthusiasm it makes you want to delve deeper into the story. This is a living history experience. I heartily recommend it for anyone wanting to learn about real Irish culture and history.

Well worth the off the beaten path experience. Our hosts were passionate and knowledgeable as well as relatives of Michael Collin’s. The story telling was superb and the home baked soda bread over the open fire was a real thrill and quite tasty. If you are in the area make it a point to stop by.

We were a group of 40+ from the USA. The owner gave an explicit, attention holding presentation on the life of Michael Collins and the important role he played in Irish independence. Very informative and interesting.

We visited in August and so pleased we did. This was a stand out experience. Tim was not just eminently knowledgeable he brought it all to life in a most engaging way. So glad we made the effort to call in. As a Brit I felt enormously ignorant about this important period of not so long ago history. Excellently done.

Hello, I’m travelling from Argentina to Ireland between march 16th up to the 25 net year.
Are you open to public in those dates? I really want to visit the Michael Collins Centre. My hobby is Irish history and I’m very exited about the possibility of visiting Mick Collins centre.
Thank you. Agustín Muzzio.

Is this centre open during the Easter holidays, around the 20-23 April, or maybe a tourist can join when there is perhaps a school tour running?

Thank you for your query. We are only open for groups from now to mid June.( WE try to get in visitors in the area while open for groups) If you are planning your trip from mid June onwards take the N22 via Macroom, then follow signs for Bandon onto N71, take R600 out of Clonakilty. Thanks from Dolores
