This ceremony has been performed at 9 pm every night in Ripon for 1,132 years since the days of my ancestor King Alfred in 886 and yet very few people know about it. The ceremony is quite short but the explanation is informative, witty, humorous...More

Incredible that this tradition has continued for so many centuries. I am so pleased we were able to see it and found the explanation of the tradition interesting and witty. Well done Ripon

We purposely came to see the Hornblower (Jim) and it was well worth the trip. He made the event entertaining and dealt with the local idiot on a scooter in a most appropriate way! Please keep up this wonderful tradition.

The Ripon Hornblower is over 1000 years of continuous history. This is a must see event if in the Ripon area. The Hornblower does his thing then gives a 20 min funny engaging talk on the history of the Hornblower. And it's free.
