An unexpectedly pleasant visit to the Abbey, its museums and church. There were only two of us on Friday morning. The ticket lady was very helpful and patient with our heavily accented German. I strongly recommend to have an audio guide. It’s available both in English and German. For bargain lovers - you must visit the historic medical books museum. It’s free of charge. Its small collection has a book with the illustrations from Durer.

We visited the former Benedictine monastery, with cloister, crypt and the biggest nave in Switzerland. Alongside the fascinating monastery, we viewed the collection by Caspar Wolf, Switzerland’s most prominent painter of Alpine landscapes.

The abbey is almost 1'000 years old and really worth visiting. Check the schedule, as there are regular masses or weddings taking place there, so that you do not disturb when visiting. Bring warm clothes - it is cold in there in the winter.

Magnificent Abbey which is rightly held proudly as the centre piece of this lovely town.
Its beautiful red twin spies can be seen fro all over town.
Great museum and gift shop to the right of the main entry.

Fascinating Benedictine era (1027) monetary with beautiful gilded decorations now converted to an abbey church, senior home, school and government office space.
