A great piece of engineering
Sep 2021
We visited it in the evening and took a picnic tea at one of the benches at the bottom. As always you have to raise a hat to Thomas Telford who designed and built it between 1803 and 1822. Just picks and shovels back then!

The time we went a large cruiser took up whole space of one of the locks. Was going from bottom to top .

Not as high as we thought
Sep 2021
Interesting enough piece of engineering but not really worth driving out to see. Not much else to do other than walk up and down. Not as high as I expected it to be.

What a great piece of industrial engineering this is considering when it was made and we were lucky that some boats were going up when visiting

We were able to the swing bridge open to allow a vessel through, but unfortunately didnt see any tackle the journey through the numerous locks. Worth stopping and walking up the locks and to stretch the legs

Incredible
Sep 2021
This infrastructure forms part of the Caledonian Canal and is the largest lock among the six or seven locks of the Canal. It is simply fascinating every time I see how it operates to allow boats to pass through, whether descending from upstream or ascending from downstream. There is a free parking next to it.
