The site itself is a MUST- fascinating, thrilling and moving. However, the only visits off season were in French and our guide (who was otherwise excellent) kept complaining we were being too loud in translating to our kids. Seriously? Two tweens behaving perfectly, being curious...More

Thank you for your review. The atmosphere in the cave can easily be disturbed by the slightest noise. This is why our guides are concerned about keeping the silence throughout the visit.

A wonderful experience - it’s incredible to think that these paintings were completed 20k years ago and survived ! The scale of the paintings was spectacular - apparently scaffolding was needed by the prehistoric people who painted these. Range of colours was impressive - 15...More

Previous reviews have said it all about this amazing experience. Congratulations to France and the French people for providing the facility which showcases this precious prehistoric cave.

This is an unbelievable experience. The original caves were discovered during WWII. The caves that we now see have been replicated using the original techniques. The experience is magnificent and the clarity just blows our minds. These were done by very early, 17,000 years ago....More

What an amazing new centre and exact copy of the original caves, built to save destruction of the original caves Once you have visited Lascaux 2 do not visit any others as they will be totally disappointing.

I thought this would be a boring visit to a badly recreated, fake looking cave. Instead, it was a fascinating view into a faithful recreation of the nearby caves. Great lessons in the local geology and anthropology, as well as pointing out how much we...More

Although this is a reproduction it was nevertheless fascinating. If you go there, you know what you are going to so I won’t go on. Despite being assured that one of us wouldn’t be able to translate for the other as there was ‘strict slience’,...More

Better than Lascaux IV, which has become sort of a Disneyland, this one is worth seeing. Try to go in October or so when not so many people will also try to go. Also: if your sense of balance is challenged as is mine, hold...More

As several people have said this is all a bit confusing. 1) Lascaux 1 is the original cave discovered in 1940. It is not accessible today because of damage to the original paintings. 2) Lascaux 2 is a couple of hundred yards down the hill...More

I enjoy visiting this place as it is great for people loving prehistory as it is one of the most beautiful artistic cave in the world. Even if it is not the real one, it is not important. A place to see!

Hi Suzi, Sorry about the delay in my reply- I was traveling. Two hours should be enough to see the caves. You may have to pass on some of the exhibits, but it will still be worth it.
