This is a lovely little bay, especially if the weather is calm. Be aware it is affected by the tides - especially access from the Whakatane end. The walk from Kohi point took about 2 hours and requires an average (or above) + level of...More

This is my favorite place in Ohope, a secluded beach with turquoise water, and a lovely bush walk to get there. Rest under the pohutukawa overhanging from the cliffs, and dip in the water when getting too warm. This is NZ at its best!

You can walk down to Otarawairere Bay from the Otarawairere settlement up the top. Abit steep but lovely walk through the bush. Takes about 10 mins down, 15 mins up.

Those who write it’s a 10 minute walk are super fit! But what’s really good is it’s proper steps and great viewing places for the necessary pauses to catch your breath. Once into the bay, the shells making the sand are stunning. So pleased I...More

A very nice walk from the beach up to the look out point and some nice almost desserted beaches with lots of swimming opportunity

A 10 minute walk from west end in Ohope, and the views are just amazing. Highly recommended to do this walk when visiting the area.

Takes about 10 minutes each way, up and over a fairly steep hill to the bay. Good place to visit all year round, although it is a little slippery after rain. Excellent views, scenery and rock pools!

Great spot for swim while walking the track from Ohope to Whakatane. Lots of steps, but stunning bush (especially in summer when the Pohutukawas are out) and refreshing for a swim when you make it.

Also known as Shelly Beach - because the 'sand' is tiny bits of shell. Lovely little spot. Check the tidal table - not much there at high tide

One of the gems at Ohope. Pack a picnic and togs. Go and enjoy an awesome day- swim, check out the rock pools, sift the shells. No doubt a "Special Place".
