I have visited this place several times within the last 10 years. I find it unfair that foreigners have to pay a high price. They call it “ecotourism “, so i expect touristic activities in harmony with nature. But within these 10 years i just realized an ecological degradation or even destruction. All is focused on business. The island is dirty, overcrowded by hundreds of tourists and very noisy: loud music everywhere and jetski running around, even banana boat.
No more peaceful snorkeling in a coral reef.
Nature is gone.
Do you know the meaning of ecotourism?
Sad story, Kalangaman could really have been e touristic jewel, but business has destroyed the island within a few years.
Don’t do the same with Quatro Islands and Canigao!

When we went as a large family group, the weather wasn’t very good and the sandbar was permanently underwater.
I walked around the island and the Western end of the island seemed abandoned. There was plastic waste all over the beaches, there were some sleeping huts which looked unkept and unused and a treehouse with broken steps. There were a group of untidy buildings and an abandoned boat dock.
We saw staff sweeping the beach at the Eastern end where there are coloured flags but got the impression that this was the only part of the island that got any attention.
The snorkeling was nothing special with little to see.
We spent the night in one of the beach cottages but couldn’t sleep as people in neighbouring cottages were talking all night and shining torches in our direction.
I really couldn’t wait to leave this place.
Maybe on a more sunny day at low tide, the island would be OK for a day trip but it wasn’t the picture perfect place we’d imagined.

Kalanggaman Island never disappoints. The water is crystal clear and warm. The island itself isn’t large bit a great place to visit for a family day out. Kayaks are available for rent. There is a tour operator Go Light Travel and Tours who offers great packages for lunch or bbq.

I already checked one of the destinations from my bucket list which is Kalanggaman Island. We enjoyed our tour in this pristine island. The view is so relaxing making us stay worthwhile. Planning to go back before summer this year. The island is precisely a must visit.

We arrived on the island for the break between our two dives. The simple fact of visiting the island costs you 500 PHP / person and apart from a very basic toilet, some shops where you can buy a coffee or something to eat and some chairs to use, there's nothing else. There are instead plenty of other tourists so forget any romantic escape plan you might have, not going to happen on this island.
The dives near Kalanggaman Island are very nice though, but unless you're a diver, you'll have to snorkel around looking for a free spot without boats and people.

The island is pretty, no doubt, but it’s a rip off and a (foreign) tourist trap. Locals pay 150 PHP entrance fee, foreigners 500 PHP. Alright, if you get something for his money, but on the island there is absolutely nothing! I work on Malapascua and have been to Kalanggaman a few times for work so I didn’t pay (my first visit however was as a tourist), but I will never visit the island again if I have to pay.
The people on the island play basketball all day, not a single trashbin is to be found, there is a coast guard hut, but it’s like 250 meters from the end of the sandbar, and usually nobody is sitting there. Every time I went I collected a big bag of trash, there is a lot, especially on the other side, where the huts are. Red Horse (beer) bottles, plastic cups, sachets, straws, a lot of garbage is just everywhere.
I wonder if anybody is working on this island apart from collecting the fees from visiting boats/travellers. I don’t support this, that is the reason for this review. Diving is nice around the island, but occasionally you find fishing nets and hooks UW.
If you want a few photos and don’t mind the above, then for sure you’ll have some nice pictures.

If you are staying on Malapascua Island then a day trip to Kalanggaman Island is an absolute must. Just ask the resort where you are staying to organise or negotiate with one of the boat owners along bounty beach. The typical day trip will depart around 9am and have you back by 4 with a pretty decent BBQ lunch provided. The island is just a pristine paradise... well looked after. Perfect white sand bars at either end of the island surrounded by crystal clear blue water. I did a bit of negotiating with the boat owner, an extra 500 pesos and they dropped my son and I off with my dive guide on the outer wall of the island. The diving here is like jumping into a giant Disney Pixar aquarium. The coral variety and colour was outstanding. The sheer number of fish topped off with turtles and sea snakes just make it all the more wondrous. Just perfect.

Picture perfect postcard of a paradise island. Fine, white sand and turquoise, clear water. Access to the island is regulated so you dont have to deal with hordes of tourists. Getting there is not easy, but it's so worth it.

If you're coming from San Miguel with your own transportation vehicle. You don't need to go to Ormoc to reach the town of Palompon. From San Miguel, you'll pass by Barugo, Carigara, Kananga, Matag-ob then Palompon, around 96km (according to Google maps). Palompon is not a separate Island, Kalanggaman is the island which is under the town of Palompon.

Hello, if you will go to Malapascua I would as FrenchKiss Divers there for a reservation, look at their homepage for the contact!
From Cebu its quite long to go there just for a quick barbecue. There are NO accommodations on Kalanggaman!
Are there restaurants and hotels or even accomodation in the island? Where we can spent overnight?

Hello. There are a few tipi houses on the other tip of the island. Each one can accomodate about 2 pax. You can find it at airbnb.
There are no fast food or formal dining restaurants there. There's only one store that sells barbecue, coffee, canned goods. What travelers do is to buy food at the main island and bring it with them to the island.

You can also arrange your tour with any local travel agency to save you time. I was lucky Hero travel solutions accommodated me with other local tourists with acceptable fee. Try it..

The currency used is Philippine Peso. There are no flights direct to Kalanggaman island. You can take a fight to Tacloban and do land trip travel to Palompon, Leyte.
