Wonderful view. Quick funicular ride up. Challenging hike down - slippery rocks from rain and steep - worth the amazing views. Took our family 1.45 hrs (listed as taking 2.5 hrs)

A must do. Take the cable lift up the mountain and walk down the path to Bleckenau. Fantastic views, the eternal silence (only some birds from time to time). It is a really easy path, ever for kids. Take somewhere 3h if you want to enjoy the nature. Yes paragliding goes faster.
The path from Bleckenau to schloss Neuschwanstein is less attractive though. If you are a large group, split up so you can hear the silence :-)

We started our hike at the Tegelberg-Bahn and followed the easier way up (not via the Klettersteig). Since it was snowy already we followed parts of the ski slope (steep but great views to Neuschwanstein). Via Bleckenau, we hiked to Neuschwanstein and Maria‘s Bridge (currently closed for renovation). Outstanding hike!

After spending more than a month studying guide books and internet sites about hiking trails on Mount Tegelbeg, I bought my ticket and thought I was set.....wrong. They had a late snow in 2019 and all of the hiking trails were closed when I got there. Bummer. However, I really enjoyed the ride to the top and a look at the snowy vista. It was warm and sunshine down below and cool and crisp on top. You couldn't go any further than the clearing behind the top cable car station and the restaurant was closed that day -- so I made my own fun, shared laughter with others and put this trip back on my bucket list. Moral: you can't control Mother Nature and you need to travel with a sense of humor!!

Beautiful views from the top. Nice food in the restaurant at the top. Many hiking trails also possible, for the more adventurous. Worth the expense of 25€ return

easy to get to; there's parking, restaurants at the top and bottom, and hiking trails on the top. Beautiful views.

We caught the cable-car up and chose route 4 for walking down. However, given this is a huge tourist attraction, information about the walking routes really should be available in different languages – my German is basic so I struggled to understand the instructions on the main boards. Also leaflets with the walking maps might be useful! The signposts are confusing with an almost ‘Wizard of Oz’ instance when it seemed all arrows, each pointing in totally different direction, lead to the same place but it wasn’t clear which route was which. In the end we had to ‘wing it’!

Route 4 – whilst indicated as being ideal for all ages, does have a ‘testing’ section close to the start when you have some very large rocky outcrops to negotiate down. There is a cable low to the ground to hold onto but you have to be agile to get over that section. However once past that, the route is stunning with amazing views over the mountain – plenty of photo opportunities the whole way down. Note – the map at the top infers that the route goes past a restaurant about ¾ way down – it doesn’t! When you get to where you think it will be, you actually have to turn left and then it’s a 20 min walk back up-hill to get to the venue – which is located in King Ludwig’s former Hunting Lodge. Though the effort is worth it!

The route brings you down to Marienbrücke and it’s worth queuing to get onto the bridge to see Neuschwanstein from ‘above’. A fantastic day out – and the walk measured some 9 miles in total.

Here you can have a better look of the village and the Alps from the Austrian side. You can choose to hike or simply take a cable car up.

Great ride up; a bit cramped but much worth it. At the top is there all the paragliding and parasailing initiates. It’s great if you want to see how people are jumping off. The peak is another hike up but not too far.
