Take the cable car up, then climb the rest of the rest of the way... There are nice trails leading to the top.

Would suggest to you as an alternative of taking the cable car up to the top , have a cup of coffee , take in the spectacular views and then walk back down. The benefits that I found was that on the way up the...More

Unfortunately it was very cloudy and we couldn't see the castle from there. The ride is good for one way only. If you buy both rides at once is less expensive than buying the return at the top of the mountain.

The ride up and down - there is a picturesque view of Schloss Neuschwanstein because you are seeing it from above with the sourounding peaks about the castle. You just have the castle standing with the mountain side behind at nearly all other view points,...More

The cable car runs through the year - every 10 mins. It takes about 10 mins to go up to about 1780m. Then you can stay by the cable car and restaurant and take in the views or you can hike up the 1-2km path...More

The cable car is working whole year, BUT in bad weather they will cancel the service, so it is worth checking on their web site a few days before.

You can hike from the cable car station to Neuschwanstein, yes. To see the inside of the castle you have to get tickets in Hohenschwangau before (around 15€), otherwise you just get to see a bit of the courtyard.
