Our family (including 2 young kids) really enjoyed our visit. It is a local museum run by volunteers, so doesn't have the big budget or 'bells & whistles' of your larger government funded museums; but it's full of charm and has some very fascinating pieces. The host on the day we went was friendly and shared some really interesting provenance about the pieces. I'd like to have seen a few more labels to understand the history of more of the pieces, but I understand these things take resources which can be a stretch for smaller museums.

Waiuku Museum
Set on the banks of the old Waiuku Harbour and part of Tamakae Reserve that is a growing collection of historical building from around Waiuku (A historical village in progress). Waiuku museum is housed in what used to be the old fire station and some of this can be in the presentation of the exhibits. For a small museum the local volunteers have packed a lot in. As you make your way through the museum you are taken from domestic living to local industry mostly with local history with it.
Park is free, just 50m from the museum and over looks the harbour and reserve.

We spent an hour visiting his museum. It is full of old and interesting items but very little is labelled or explained. I think they need the help of a professional curator .

With deep roots in Waiuku I found this very interesting even some relatives photos on the wall. Purely run by volunteers on a shoestring a very positive experience that many small towns don’t have

A dark and cool old hall full of unlabelled artifacts from the past. if you are a farmer, dairy milker, or sheepherder, you will appreciate the classilc tools and farm articels from 100 years ago.
It''s much more interesting if you are over 70, and can remember the ldays of hand milking and shearing sheds.
if you are under 20, you will appreciate the manual typewriters and childrens games.
The museum is struggling to stay open, and is down to 2 1/2 hours open on sunday every weeki.

Very interesting collection of old items, ship models, agricultural implements and a video showing the history of Waiuku. It shows how people lived around 60 years ago. We went in for a small donation which was very worthwhile. Would love to go again. Run entirely by volunteers and the community.

If you want to see what people from Waiuku have collected lover the years, come to the Waiuku Museum.
They have boxes of seashells, walls of bottles, doll collections, and a new barn with milking shed and sheep shearing shed.
Lots of stuff to see, though not particularly well labelled (few labels), but a good picture of where old Waiuku came from.
