We were surprised by the great system of canals and lakes here.. they powered the mines many years ago and many remain in great shape. The countryside is beautiful and the towns well preserved. Much history of the separation of Germany too.

As you climb up into the hills, either by car or by steam train, the wooded hills can but impress you. But the swathes of green forest are scarred by areas of trees that have died and are grey/ brown. We were told that it's...More

This is an awesome park the paths are easily accessed and the signs and directions are great. Parts of the woods seem to be dying there are many trees that have already been cut down but many many require being cut down.

Hiking, by car, by train, you always can enjoy nature, the woods, the moors, climb on cliffs and have a lot of fun in the Harz.

We did not have this shot and had no problems! If you are hiking there are trails so you don't have to walk through brush.

There is a very nice camping in Bad Harzburg-Göttingerode, at "Goldberg". Only two hundred meters from very fine wood, small rivers and less people!
