The last time I was at Yardenit was around 25 years ago , and it was interesting to see if anything had changed in the meantime .
Gone are the photographers that had accompanied the groups from all over the world to this amazing place , replaced by worshippers brandishing smart-phones on selfie sticks , but the "vibe" was still there !! .
Highly recommended , but choose the day of your visit carefully , some days the place is packed , other days , mainly empty .
The gift shop sells souveniers at " tourist prices" , but if this is going to be a once in a lifetime experience , then "splashing out" might be your only option .
I have included pictures from my last visit , way back in 1998 for comparison
BTW , There was a wheelchair lift to allow access to the Jordan river ( not sure if it was working though )

Yardenit. The place is beautiful and peaceful. But more like a business than the real meaning of the place, everything is something for sale.

We visited this site on our trip to Israel and 3 of our 6 family members were baptized. Many others in the group we were with were also baptized. It was a joyful experience! Everything was well organized. Price was $15 per person and included the required gown, a towel and shower. Make sure you have a bathing suit for under the gown, they are see through when wet! They have liquid soap dispensers in the shower area, which are private stalls. They also have one hair dryer, and I was able to use it without waiting in line! There is 2 gift shops for those who waited for us to change after the baptism. I would recommend this experience.

Not sure whether this is the real place as mentioned in the Bible, others claim, that the actual place is closer to Jericho. Be that as it may, this place is full of Tourists, with one coach after the other bringing in tourists. Not entirely sure what to make out of this, at least the entry is free.

We were told this is where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist : the facilities here are well set up for the tourists and those who want to submerge themselves in the filthy water. You can buy white printed gowns rent towels shower and change. Tourists are delivered by the bus load to this site but honestly there is no way I would trust that water quality as being safe enough. Scripture also supports another site in Judea as the actual spot- just saying.

It was such a spiritual experience to be baptized at the Jordan River. We didn’t have our own pastor or minister, but we were welcomed by a group of Catholics from Tennessee, USA, thanks to our tour guide Enrique from Compass Israel who spoke with them.

This site is located at the exit of the Jordan River from the Sea of Galilee. We knew prior to visiting that this was not the "actual" site where Jesus was baptized.
Not knowing what to expect before we traveled I had contacted the staff for help in arranging a visit and Catholic baptism. The staff sent me a lengthy explanation of the "Do's and Dont's" for a visit, which was very helpful. The nicest part of the pre-visit information was a list of priests and other clergy with their contact information because if you aren't part of a tour you have to make your own arrangements for baptism. Expect to make a donation to whichever clergy you choose for drive time and sermon.
Our Catholic priest made the moment so special. He had prepared a sermon for our unique circumstances and spent time offering us a snippet of all the history surrounding the area.
As some of the other reviewers have stated, watching the emotions on the faces of the others receiving baptism was cool.
Yes, there is a large concession area which we can all do without, but the grounds were quiet and all in all I would recommend this as a stop for any traveler.

It was great to visit again. Was there 12 years ago when one of our company was baptised. This time we viewed quite a few baptisms taking place especially a group of very young people.

Beautiful river but the show is those being baptised and how special it is for them. It's very humble to watch. Massive shop unsurprisingly.

Simple question, what do people wear under the white robes? I'll be immersed in February.

I'll be getting baptized there in November. How cold is the water? Should I have a wet suit on underneath my robe?
hi did you need to book with the site before going there so they could provide a priest to baptise you Many thanks

We were with an organised group. A couple approached our group asking if they too could be baptised, so it appears that you don’t need to pre-book a visit. A problem may arise when you approach someone and ask them if they will baptize you
Hello, may I ask was there someone there to baptise you or do you have to book in advance?also what extra cost do you have to consider?
Many thanks

There is no resident clergy on site but if you go on to the Yardenit website and contact them they will put you in touch with a pastor/priest of your denomination.
So you will have to arrange it in advance and I presume the cost will be between you and whoever you choose to baptise you.

Hola,
Si, creo que se puede realizar el viaje desde Tel Aviv en un dia. Sin embargo, no se los costos del bautismo porque no lo realizamos.

Klara1969, I believe that there is someone there who is employed by Yardinit to baptize you. However, if they don't, you can just ask one of the other groups if their pastor will baptize you. It is one of the highlights of a pastor's life to be able to baptize and welcome one of God's children into the family as a public declaration of their faith in Jesus. When our group was visiting, a father with his two sons from Germany asked our pastor to baptize them. Our whole group prayed for them and welcomed them. It was such a privilege and a highlight to connect with other believers around the world. We later ran into them in Jerusalem. With God, there are always "divine appointments." You will have no problem being baptized there. You will be surrounded by believers who would love to do it!! God bless you on your pilgrimage!
