Climbing the church’s stairs will lead you on its roof, where you can enjoy a 360 view of the village. But, all in all, that’s worth spending 10 minutes maximum, and you’ll have to pay 3€ for that! Downstairs, in the (small and crowded) church...More

As we drove through the little town of Saintes Maries de la Mer its namesake church was pointed out to us. It has existed since the 9th century A.D. on the site of an ancient Greek temple dedicated to Artemis. We were told that the...More

Worth a visit if you are in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Nothing much else to see in this quiet French seaside town. Watch out for the travellers who were massing near the church to sell you their wares - and were also looking at your pockets!

With loads of history and stories we would not normally have come across. This is a must. Roof top views were fantastic.

What can you say? Great views from the top. Bit of a climb, but everyone was enjoying straddling the apex of the roof.

A last-minute decision brought us 4 nights to this little town in the wildly beautiful Camargue region we visited about 20 years ago out of season. We found a wonderful Mas within walking distance of town (see separate review for Le Mas de Cocagne) and...More
