This is a very fine crypt dating back around a 1000 years. Tip - the light switch is on a timer and to your left on the way in! Worth spending time to look at the carvings on the pillars. The church above looks closed...More

A nice church to escape from the midday sun into. Pretty stained glass. Unfortunately the crypt was empty when we had a look (hoping this was intentional!) but overall a nice little visit. Free to enter when we went.

The crypt of this ancient cathedral does back a long time. For the sake of this saint who was the first bishop to be sent to what is now the department of Charente Maritime in West of France, Saintes was given its name. Saint Eutrope...More

The basilica is quite old and you has some impressive architectural elements. However, what you really shouldn't miss is the crypt with Saint Eutrope. I've visited many basilicas/churches/cathedrals and was very impressed with how well-preserved it was. Unusual, beautiful, quiet, and cool (which was a...More

We found this church by accident. We'd been to the Amphitheatre & were following brown tourist signs for somewhere else when the path branched & the church & Crypt were signed off to our right. As we'd been walking along we'd already seen the church...More

discovered this church by chance on the map we were given at the hotel. It has a very ancient crypt beneath it and an old church on top. It is quite small but beautiful

The crypt is a significant piece of Romanesque architecture. It is extremely dark inside - but the floor is level and there is a light to switch on. The capitals are gorgeous examples from the period . There are some really unique ones and also...More

This is probably an average church of which there are hundreds all over France. The best bit is the Crypt underneath, reached by a door alongside the building. It is dark, with a sloping ramp down to the floor. There are a few side altars...More

We visited the church and crypt after the amazing amphitheatre and was part of a walk we took around the town to see this and the many other sites of interest. This is well worth a visit, especially to see the crypt which has some...More
