Porte de l'Avancee is one of the doors located in Mont-Saint-Michel, in Normandy. It is a nice door located near the entrance. One of the places, you will see, if you come here. (see also Abbaye du Mont-St-Michel, Baie du Mont-St-Michel and le Grand Rue)

The gate used to enter the Abbey complex. This is the 1st of 3 gates you pass through that made up part of the fortifications of the Abbey. Just inside the gate, to the left is the tourist office, which is housed in the former guardhouse.

Simple, rough and solid, it is the main gate of Mont Saint Michel. Not beautiful, but a perfect reference point for beginning the Mont Saint Michel exploration.

We were ready for the high tides but not until the next morning did we realize that you really need to add that into your departure time. All in all the experience at the gate was the best of the trip - fog and water and great backgrounds!

As you enter Mount St. Michel you pass through this gate, the first of a series of three gates making up the early defenses of the island. Though not remarkable, it is memorable.
