Great afternoon visiting the Mont, its "ruelles" and the fortifications. Really cool place, but expect to be surrounded by people all the time. Tiny streets, people all around you, and constant sound. Have to go at least one, but will on return if taking other people.

A great stroll which sums up the atmosphere of Mont Saint Michel. We were lucky to be there early (we took the second shuttle bus of the day!) and the street is practically empty. It was crowded when we left at 13:00!

The start of the street was being redone so we couldn't just walk around. We ended up going around instead of down the main street. There were nice views but missed going down the main street.

We figured it was probably a lovely place, quaint and ancient at the same time. Great location, though we couldn't see much of it from the street. Climbed steep stairs to the ramparts. Finally found a stone seat that allowed my wife to sit and pause. Everywhere the same: a sense of great things around us, but the immediate problem was always the same. Lots of people, continually wanting to move on. We left.…

The street is filled with restaurants and little souvenir shops. Some of the restaurants offer lovely views of the bay - make reservations in high season. It is nicest to stroll in the late afternoon, when most the tourist busses have left back for Paris. Many of the shops where closing somewhat early 5-6 pm in May. There are also little side stairs, to walk up on to the fortifications/walls - this will offer wonderful views of the abbey, town, and bay. Seeing the sunset behind Mont-Saint-Michel is almost magical!! I suggest standing back 4-5 hundred meters, for an amazing perspective and pictures. The month of May has very few tourists in general. …
