I was really looking forward to hiring a bike and cycling along the canal towards the sea but found the staff member who processed my reservation to be incredibly rude and patronising. I felt really awkward and couldn't wait to get out of the shop...More
My partner and I recently returned from a wonderful 8 day self guided bike tour from Carcassonne to Sete on the coast in the Languedoc region of France. The accommodation was all high standard with two particularly lovely hotels - in Homps and Marseillan -...More
I rented a bike from Relax Cycle Beziers to cycle along the Canal du Midi, taking the bike on the train to Toulouse on the first day, and cycling back to Beziers in 3 days. I booked accommodations in Castelnaudary and Marseillette.

We thoroughly recommend Relax Bike Tours to others; their bikes are solid and good value, particularly as helmets and accessories such as panniers and a bar bag are included in the price. We rented the bikes for a week and enjoyed riding in the region,...More
Isabella and Timo were fantastic both times that we hired bikes from them (May 2016 and June 2018). They are so friendly and obviously want you to have the best time.

The section between Bordeaux and Toulouse (canal de Garonne) is good and suitable for all bikes, however the canal du midi bit between Toulouse and Sete is not so good, with bumpy paths which can be hard work on the hands and derriere.
Also cycling along the canals may seem idyllic but it gets very monotonous, so plan excursions or alternative routes on country roads which are just as much fun.
