One of my favourite trips out of Paris was to Compiegne. There is such a cute little downtown area right by the castle. The castle wasn’t busy and I felt like we almost had it to ourselves! It’s a beautiful castle with gorgeous gardens. We...More

It is not as magnificent as Versailles but it is, in my opinion, a better alternative to Versailles if you want to spend some quality time without the crowds of Versailles. It is true that the Palace has been rebuilt and the old furniture is...More

This building had been rebuilt many times. All original furniture is gone. Nice park and rose garden.

Beautiful grounds for a stroll. Enjoyable museum both for the living quarters of emperor and empress as well as the attached wagon/early car museum.

For those of us that like vehicles there’s a museum of old sleighs, carriages and even some early motors. Very interesting but unfortunately badly presented.

Not even remotely crowded - sumptuous furnishings in a lovely Palais. Interesting in context with others such as Fontainebleau or Versailles although not nearly s “Grand”. Gardens and surrounding forest particularly lovely. Easy train ride out (45 minutes).
