Would have loved to see more of the inside of the palace. Happy though we were able to visit part of it via the tourist office entrance and the visit was free.

Considered as the first of the Loire‘s castles with its wide renaissance façade surrounded by the polygon turrets, it was built on the hill overlooking the center of the old town, the Republic Square and a big park. There is an avant-garde museum and a...More

The exterior is beautiful but the interior is renovated and very modern as this building is in current use.

The former ducal palace is now the tourist information site and a small city museum. If there are "ducal" rooms to see, I guess we must have missed them.

The palace looks interesting from the outside, and surprisingly (I thought), visits are free. But for those who visited the towers in la Rochelle, this is certainly not playing in the same league. There are exhibitions, but unfortunately no thematic one on the palace's history....More

There was nothing really special about this place; no unique architecture that stood out and no artwork that was nice to see. It was bland on the outside and the town it is in is boring with not much to do.

The palace is absolutely beautiful with an imposing facade and fantastic architectural details. The inside can be visited for free. Some of the exhibits are more interesting than others but everything is free, you get to see some rooms and learn about the town etc....More

First impressions of this wonderful building and its setting are hard to describe, but magnificent springs to mind. Sadly little prepares the visitor for the dreadful treatment of the interior now devoted to the humdrum of municipal government. Little wonder there is no charge to...More
