Another historical monument is the Ducal Palace of Nevers. The wide renaissance facade is surrounded by polygon turrets and built on the hill of the ancient town. In front of the Palace, there is a long tree-lined esplanade with panoramic views.

Would have loved to see more of the inside of the palace. Happy though we were able to visit part of it via the tourist office entrance and the visit was free.

My niece was married here. The building itself is very grand and the decor inside beautiful. The grounds surrounding the Palais are carefully tended and colorful with beautiful flowers - a great place for photographs. Nevers church nearby is also worth a visit.

The palace looks interesting from the outside, and surprisingly (I thought), visits are free. But for those who visited the towers in la Rochelle, this is certainly not playing in the same league. There are exhibitions, but unfortunately no thematic one on the palace's history....More
