Firstly, be very careful what you book online. We booked for the submarine museum an audio tour. This is not actually the submarine but a much smaller museum. When we got there the woman on the desk was very stressed and tried to persuade us we did not want 4 audio tour headsets (we were 2 adults and 2 children) and insisted for each headset we leave an items such as a mobile phone, car keys, bank card etc. we handed over our car keys but we’re told this was only enough for one headset! No option to pay a cash deposit instead and we were reluctant to leave all our worldly goods so only had one headset despite paying for 4 audio tours . So a very quick tour around a mediocre museum where the children could not understand as all was in French.
If you want to see the museum book for sous marine flore - not sous marine musee!!! Such a disappointment and the subject of much family arguments!

The entrance door to K2 is located on the side of the building right by the submarine. This door is not signed very well and we just looked for the line up to enter K2. Arrive at the time stated on your onine ticket. The person at the entrance to the Flore submarine in K2 building had difficulty with her code reader when it was placed over printed online tickets causing a hold up for people to enter.

Visitors first tour through a small display area and sit on bleachers to view a short documentary film (approximatly 10 min) of the time period when the submarine had been in use. The film consisted of short news clips of historical events in the 20th century ending with the Cold War and the Fall of the Berlin Wall. It had English sub-titles. This film would not be of interest to school children in my opinion, and could be skipped even by adults.

The walk through the Flore submarine is really the focus of this visit to K2 and is the best/most interesting part. Before entering the submarine, personnel provide audio guides in your language of choice (included in ticket price) which provide commentary for the things one sees inside the submarine.

The submarine is very narrow inside - single file only. Very difficult to imgine 40+ sailors living and working here, but then sailors took shifts sleeping in the few bunk beds. There certainly were no luxuries in the living and dining quarters. There seemed to be 1 toilet cubicle (no door) and 1 sink for these sailors to use. The kitchen must have been a nightmare to assemble food due to the cramped quarters and the need to climb down a ladder to the food storage area. The dining table was a narrow board between the bunk beds. The work the sailors had seemed to involve dials and gadgets, in front of which they sat back to back. Many lines of wires were openly pinned to the sub walls. The officers quarters had been renewed, but had once been an area where livestock had been held for fresh meat and produce. The walk through the submarine takes about 45 -60 minutes, depending on how thoroughly one reads the Fr-English labels on things and listens to the commentary.

This visit is done without a guide and lasts about 1 1/4 hour. I visited this submarine after a visit to the K3 base which I think made a visit through the submarine more meaningful.

There is no guide needed for this visit. I thought the submarine ticket could be a few Euros less.

True interesting and poignant visit. I hardly recommend if you're staying in Lorient.
The sailors' testimonies makes this moment really full of life

We checked and the information online says open seven days a week from 1.30pm till 6.30pm. Having driven an hour to get there was not happy to find the online info is wrong. CLOSED.

We found it was free parking, some very impressive yachts in the harbour and some equally impressive gaffite on the walls. You can walk round read all the information boards, we went in maybe were we should not to see the pens which are very impressive. You get the feeling of the scale of the building of the pens. They are rotting away with the sea air so don,t expect them to look like in Das Boot after all they are 80 years old.

Very much a curates egg of an experience.

The Flore submarine tour was good ish.

The tour of the sub base was poor.
Tour guide spoke very fast French, didn't bother explaining anything in English. Thank god for a fellow tourist who tried to explain some things. We abandoned, hadn't a clue what was going on.

Not very nonFrench child friendly, consider something else for the young.

Website a nightmare to navigate.

Definitely work a visit to the Flore submarine and museum, good audio visual presentation and audio guide to the submarine. Plenty of English language content.

However the tour of the base was not great as the guide was not prepared to put any effort to accommodate those who did not understand French language at speed. We left after 15 minutes. No English headphones unlike the submarine. Need to review this part of the tour.

Good restaurant on site near the visitor eception.

Very interesting visit with headphones. It enables understanding the harshness of being a submariner. The museum is good as well except the movie that is not related to submarine history.

AMAZING. The audio tour was very good. There were display panels with information. There were lots of things to do, especially for children like puzzles on the tablets. The movie on the moving boards with a light show was spectacular. over all it was a 5 star experience. And then to top it all off would be the submarine, it was truly amazing because it had all the original parts and you could go to every area. To get to the submarine you need to go upstairs which is not accessible to wheelchairs or buggies. In the submarine it is tight for space, that might be a problem for some people. The kids loved exploring the submarine though. There was a small gift shop at the end. It cost €8 per adult and €6.50 per child over 5, it was well-worth the admission price. The was lots of free parking in the area.

DO NOT TAKE YOUNG CHILDREN. This is an often chilling and threatening insight into these bleak times with an artistically produced Son e Lumiere presentation projected on to the two feet thick bare concrete walls. These humongous concrete bunkers were just about the only things left standing after the Blitzkreig of the allies of poor Lorient which they almost totally obliterated. The walk through the submarine brought home the terrible tortuous world of submarine life, which however as is often the case was made bearable by the camaraderie on board. The audio guide was narrated in English which was more "Allo Allo" than the T.V. series. It is not necessary to have a native English speaker to do the commentary and really not appropriate, but this was really about as bad as it gets. However overall a terrific experience of horrific times.

The visit of the Flore submarine obviously did not leave you indifferent. For young children, we provide a mobile app-game survey but this one is unfortunately only available in French. We thank you for your visit and for your appreciation.

We took the tour and the audio guide. The tour was good, the films captured the elements of how this place was used during WW2, The audio tour of the submarine was also interesting, walking through the narrow vessel you get a feel of life underwater, the audio discriptions were good and made use of stopping/starting when in the correct location.
