This is a magical storybook place. We set off from the very off-putting docks at Lorient on a large ferry. It was pretty difficult to find a place to park. We expected perhaps a bit of a cruise feeling, but there were no refreshments on board and there was a choice between outdoor uncovered wooden seat on the deck with no shelter, or aircraft style seats all in rows. There was no commentary available so we had to thumb through our guide books to find out what all the sights were on our way. However upon disembarkation another world entirely met our eyes. If you want to rent a bike in the high season come on the first ferry. We wandered on foot over hilly lanes and clifftop walks to the most beautiful sandy beach imaginable. Mica sand sparkled, colourful yachts bobbed in the bay, the sea was green ans lapped on the shore. One big drawback-only one single toilet and that was not on the beach! Some sort of automatic cleaning W.C. Otherwise this place is sheer heaven. And do what everyone else does. Do it in the sea!

I went to visit some friends on the Island, with my Grandkids!!!
It was a real pleasure- we had a great weather for the season and we even went for a “quick” swim.
Yes, we were a bit crazy but the temperature was great and the water so clean and transparent.
We had the chance to hike and bike as well,
It’so quite up there no noise at night and a beautiful sky.
We visited many little harbour and small towns.
I felt rejuvenated and calmed inside.
Great place to discover....

My family of 4 came to the Ile de Groix for a day trip while staying in Lorient. We left wishing that we'd been able to spend more time here. We had lunch in Port Tudy after getting off the ferry then hired some bikes to cycle around the island, with a nice feeling of exploring somewhere unknown. We found our way to an amazing beach with pure white sands. It would be great to spend a few days here and take the time to really get to know the island.

We loved the relaxed spirit in the harbour of Port Tudy. There were loads of musicians, fresh seafood and many spots to enjoy your sun downer.

The Ile de Groix is a short and picturesque 45min ferry crossing (€30 return each from Lorient), and a joy to visit and cycle round.

We have been here a few times but tend to miss the busy weekends. However on our last trip we went on a Friday and Saturday so we had a great time socialising with the local sailors. We hired a car and found out more of this lovely island, we will be back.

The ferry was a tad expensive but the island was beautiful. We cycled around most of the island and the views were breathtaking. I would recommend taking a picnic as round the northern end of the island there are not a lot of restaurants etc. A perfect place to cycle or walk and admire the views. The white sand beach was a hidden gem. Would definitely return.

Apr 2016 • Friends
I visited Ile de Groix, just south of Lorient (a short, 30 minute boat ride from the town's ferry port) with some friends in April 2016. The boat takes you to Port Tudy, just NE of the main town on Groix, Le Bourg. It's a picturesque little island with plenty of quaint little hotels and restaurants. We walked to the south of the island (about 40 minutes) to the Pointe des Chats which was beautiful, before walking west the the Francois le Bail nature reserve. If you have a spare few hours in Lorient I highly recommend visiting the island.

Bonne visite

Hi, what would you like to know about this attraction?
We are thinking of staying here for a week in August and would like to know if we can walk our dog on the beach here?

It’s very expensive (over £300) to take the car, so we left it in the port car park for a week. The car park was very busy as a lot of people have the same idea.
We went as foot passengers and paid extra to take the bikes on the ferry. There’s also a bus service at the port if you don’t have bikes, a limited taxi service and bike hire. E17.25 adult, E7.50 children, E7.50 bikes and E2.90 for the dog!
I hope that helps.
