Unique Experience in the Gran Sasso Mountains
Jun 2018 • Couples
If you want a very enjoyable outing in the mountains drive to the open meadows of the Gran Sasso Monti Della Laga Park. In the springtime there are millions of wildflowers of almost every color. Either bring your own picnic lunch or stop by Macelleria Giuliani to roast your own Arrosticini - small pieces of lamb put onto a wooden skewer and roasted over charcoal. You purchase your skewers of meat and your beverages, they have the charcoal already prepared, so you find yourself a picnic table, select someone to cook the meat, and enjoy the outdoors. It is an experience you must have if you are a visitor to Abruzzo. Tip - the summer weekends, particularly Sundays, this place attracts many, many people. Weekdays are better if you don't like crowds. Lots of motorcycle riders make this a destination spot on the weekends. There is one other place just up the road from Macelleria Giuliani that attracts even more people.

This is not a restaurant but a sort of butchers shop where you buy your meat and they have BBQS outside for you to cook on.Try the Arrosticini (lamb cut into chunks on skewers) The BBQSs are elongated shape, called canala as it resembles a gutter. You can buy wine and bread ..oh the sausages are lovely .A beautiful setting.

One of my favorite places in Abruzzo.

The veal chops are magnificent! The sausage and arrositcini are really great too! The family is always welcoming. We love getting wine, water and a few cokes with some cheese from them to round out a great lunch high in the mountains! This year they even taught my son how to cook the perfect chop. There are other food stands around but this is the one to stop at in the area!Grazie!
