History of Cycling
Oct 2017 • Friends
This is a large, spacious museum dedicated to the history of cycling with a focus on two of the Italian great cyclists. There is a lot to see in the museum which includes well laid out displays as well as video. Everything is in Italian, so that can be a bit of problem for non-Italian speakers. However, if you are interested in seeing the historical development of the bicycle there are examples from the earliest era and how it transformed into the modern racing cycle. This can be understood at least on a surface level by simply observing the bicycles on display. You could spend several hours in the museum, but even an hour is useful and provides some insight into the important role cycling plays in Italian culture.

Fabulous - well worth a visit!

Even if you're not much into bikes this place is a gem. It is beautifully styled and has some thrilling artefacts some in cabinets and some on open display. The entry slope with the hairpin bend down to the next level is a wonderful idea and takes you past a wall of pink Giro winners jerseys donated after a campaign to recover as many as possible by an Italian sports paper. Seeing actual bikes ridden by the likes of Fausto Coppi and Eddie Merckx was quite emotional. The staff were so lovely, friendly and helpful and possibly the nicest in the world! We highly recommend the Museo del Ciclismo, oh and the souvenirs were great too!

A treasure trove

This is a holy site of cycling, focusing on 2 local greats of Italian cycling, Girodengo and Fausto Coppi. There is a wide range of historic bicycles and jerseys, as well as photos and movies. All commentary is in Italian however with no English translations. Many exhibits are poorly curated with little attempt at preservation and the exhibition hall is not air-conditioned and so can get very warm in summer
