We stayed in Croce and this golf course was even farther up the mountain! We took a taxi up to the course to explore. We arrived at 6 which is way too early for dinner but a nice waiter brought us drinks and allowed us to have an early dinner although the usual dinner time is much later. Excellent food, nice views of Lake Como. Everyone likes to talk about George Clooney having a home in the area and playing golf at this course. The Club was build by British people and has a feel of a golf club in Scotland or Ireland.

The title applies to the food not golf!! Our hotel recommended the restaurant and I was a tad concerned that it was a golf club where I would expect the food to be adequate but not great. How wrong was I!! It turned out to be a first for us in that there was no menu!! Two starters and two mains were suggested and we went along with these and they turned out to be very tasty and very well presented. The cost was also well below what you have to pay in this area It was also a lovely room with a massive open fire which added to the pleasure. We are not golfers but will visit another if they serve food as good as this! It was a tad surprising that we had the place to ourselves as

Having played this course several times over the past five years, it offers new surprises on each visit. First thing you notice is the stunning vistas from every angle you look, over lake Como and the surrounding alpine foothills which surround you. But then you soon realise this is also a very technical and challenging golf course, if not especially long. Most fairways are either up or down relatively steep slopes, some with a sideways lilt. The holes are narrow, and require a straight shot to keep you out of the forest. An historic layout which has stood the test of more than one hundred years, this course should be on the short list of those to play for any serious golfer visiting the north of Italy. The clubhouse is also a work of art, architecturally impressive in traditional style, with a friendly and competent staff to serve you a perfectly chilled cocktail on a well shaded terrace overlooking the 18th green. Nirvana for golfers!

Second oldest course in Italy. Don’t miss it. The whole experience is a treat. Very tight where a good score really is a good score! Stunning par 5’s and very tough par 3’s. Wild Boar can be a problem but ground staff do a great repair job. I would go for match play as it is easy to stray off line. Make sure you shower and dine in the magnificent clubhouse. Stunning!

We had booked a package of 2 nights B&B and 1 round of golf each at the price of 350 Euro. Room was pokey, but with a lovely view of Lake Como. Bed was terribly squeaky. Showering not possible, as no screen or curtain. No warm water upon arrival. Was sorted out at 22.00 hrs. Bath tub did not drain. Either share the water, or wait another hour for tub to be drained. Pre-booked starting time would have involved to play the first nine holes at 10.00, the second nine at 13.00, i.e. a wait of at least 1 hour between first and second nine. We decided to leave without playing nor staying another night. No word of apology. They wanted to charge 110 Euro for the night and a breakfast which consisted of cakes/croissants and coffee. Refused to pay. Rate was then reduced to 70 Euro. Restaurant was ok, but totally overpriced. All in all: Mickey-Taking!
