During Christmas break we were in Madonna di Campiglio for skiing. Slopes are excellent but chair-lifts and cable railway are so bad organized. Chaos, crowd, everybody is pushing. It would be enough to set up a barrier and regulate the line. My new skis have been destroyed.

The cabin is fine and a return day trip is around EUR 12. The views are spectacular. There are many prepared tracks but the soft hills are most suitable for a walk just anywhere - and you avoid most of the other tourists. No need for heavy shoes or gear for that kind of walk. The restaurant at the top is fine. I didn't try the food but the beer is OK.

Pinzolo is outstanding for skiers who prefer none or may tolerate some queuing in the lifts, likes more red and black slopes than blue ones and appreciate some cultural surrounding in a old Italian small town instead of a cluster of modern hotels and luxury flats. The Madonna di Campiglio ski area includes also Pinzolo and gives you more than 150 km of skiing. In Madonna one has to be prepared to queue and constantly look out for other skiers. Good slopes but with much blue or transfer type of skiing pistes.
