This museum houses objects found in Civitavecchia and nearby, which are well presented and with some described in English as well as Italian. There are the ‘usual’ terracotta jars, statues and votive objects: most moving were a set of gravestones mostly of men who had...More

Palazzo Vitelleschi os beautiful and it holds a gorgeous collection of Etruscan art, from funerary tombs and other objects to an amazing collection of ceramics. Some objects are absolutely unique. A must in a beautiful city.

The museum is easy to cover in an hour if you don't read every label. The sculptures of the horses and Mithras are well worth the modest price of admission. The selection of Etruscan sarcophagi well covers the average interested person's need to know. The...More

Despite this city suffering extensive damage during WWII, this free museum gives a good historical overview of the region. The labeling is good, and with a small collection, museum fatigue doesn't occur.

On the information board outside it made it sound that the museum was interesting. We did not think that it was that interesting and the English explanations were not easy to understand. It was free though.

We took the city bus from Civitavecchia to Tarquinnia. It was easy to do. The museum is quite interesting and worth an afternoon. One can also climb the hills and see some tombs in their original setting but we chose not to do that.
