The passage of time has not been kind to the cathedral, the entrance is evidence of severe damage, but inside a genuine sense of peace and calm endures and a strong sense of grandeur remains. Splendid stained glass, in itself this made the visit entirely worthwhile. A combination of easy parking right next to the cathedral and several acceptable eateries nearby help to make any visit a very agreeable experience.

Expected much more then this was. I realise it had been rebuilt and pillaged but very few statues remain and the most interesting bit was inaccessible. Still very interested & relics of St Therese of Liseux and her parents were presnt

We had booked up for the lights and music show in the evening. So we had a look around the cathedral in the afternoon. What a fantastic place, the French do know how to build churches and cathedrals. The lights and music show in the evening was just amazing. It told the history of the cathedral. A lot planing and preparation went it to getting it right. Well done to the Cathedral people.

In a triangle between the Normandy beaches, Le Mans and Chartres, a more "anonymous", but important medieval gothic cathedral can be found: Notre-Dame of Sées. Built in the 13-14th century and with several exceptional features, it's well worth a detour. The choir and transept is particularly elegant in the stunning lightness and airiness the architects of French gothic style wanted to achieve. Two 70 m spires, marvellous stained glass windows (especially the bow windows in the transept) from the 13-14th century and overall beautiful building proportions. The cathedral also hosts one of the finest organs built by the famous organ builder Cavaillé-Coll in the 19th century. Much restored, rebuilt and maintained throughout the centuries and with the absence of tourist hoards, it's a must see.
