Great brief visit combined with Enginuity, Coalbrookville Museum of Iron and a nice walk to the Green Wood Cafe for Lunch on a rainy day. The 3D paintings outside the drawing room were particularly lovely and son loved dressing up.

I visited the Darby Houses as part of the annual passport ticket for Ironbridge. This museum consists of two small houses and a Quaker burial ground which was closed during my visit. The first house has only the ground floor accessible and is not restored...More

When we visited we found that only one of the three houses was open for viewing. This was very disappointing. There was information around the house, but was on laminated papers that were tied together and not obvious.

I think I was expecting more; the reality was that one house only had 3 rooms on the ground floor to look at - the rest upstairs were private holiday apartments. The other had more rooms and was more interesting though. The best part was...More

Unfortunately they only had one house open when we visited due to staff shortages. The rooms were presented in such detail. There was only a small space to stand in each room, which got very crowded if there were more than three people trying to...More

Only had time for a short visit so did whizz around the house a bit. All very nice and well preserved with some interesting period pieces. Didn't quite do it for me though. It was bit spartan - there again, it was a Quaker household.

The Darby Houses are a minutes walk from Engenuity, Bedlam Furnaces & the Coalport Museum (all part of the Ironbridge museums). They are definitely worth a visit, but check opening times, as we arrived with only 30 minutes to spare. There is lots of info...More

Within fairly easy walking distance of the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron (though uphill and not best suited to those of limited mobility) are the historic Darby houses (a bit like mini National Trust properties) although only one was open when I visited. There are several...More

Only on house was open due to volunteer shortgaes but it was very interesting. Only a short walk from Iron Museum so easy to do at the same time. Loved dressing up in the costumes!

We went on this trip as part of the excellent value Ironbridge Passport . Diana, the lovely lady who has been a volunteer for 20 years showed us around and really bought the place to life with her stories and anecdotes. Her enthusiasm for the...More
