A quiet morning walk the long way into town. Quiet down there and didn't really come along anyone else. Really nice way to spend a little time.

When you first visit Durham you will notice it is very compact. Unlike most other cities in the UK it is practically surrounded by natural water, in this case the River Wear. This makes it it very easy to navigate. Like we do, take a...More

Pretty walk on a beautiful day. Shortage of benches to sit on however. Very tranquil and well paved.

A must do - a walk along the river with great views of the cathedral and next to the weir there are stil two old boat houses. Plenty of seats along the walk if you need to rest a while.

It’s a city we’ve been longing to visit... but what a shock. Walking from the hotel, we were instantly hit by the filthy streets and pavements. Black stains, sticky pavements, cigarette butts and so much broken glass. Even the buildings paintwork didn’t escape unscathed. The...More

I had to give up trying to access the river walk as the paths are too steep and slippery. The bit we did see was beautiful and birds are plentiful. It seems popular with local people, who are very friendly. However our visit was ruined...More

Good walk along the river, the restaurant in the photo is now an excellent independant cafe - Riverside Kitchen - highly recommended. Just a shame the council don't clear up the rubbish !!
