Day Trip
Sep 2021
Very nice day , very busy walking attire required also a good idea to stock up on snacks, lots of walking involved and breath taking scenery - however if going for puffins they only nest at the island in June, September is good for Seal spotting Dolphins joined the boat briefly on the way back which was very exciting.

Beautiful island but not the most accessible
Sep 2021
Beautiful island. Went for a day trip to do letterboxing. The hill from the harbour is an awful climb as it is steep, but the rest is fine. The ladder at the pier is not fun, especially if you have a fear of heights and water. Next time, i think it will be by helicopter and staying for a few days.

A wonderful escape
Sep 2021 • Solo
A wonderful visit to Lundy, I enjoyed walking the path and the wonderful see views. I was lucky enough to to stay in one the castle cottages (Castle Keep East) which was a great base.

Lundy Island - a great place to escape
Aug 2021
Spent 11 nights on Lundy at the end of August. As always a quiet and relaxing break with wildlife, walking and swimming. Kids as always loved jumping off the pier and fishing for mackerel. If you want a break that allows you to recharge, with great pub food and very helpful and knowledgeable staff, then look no further. It feels like home, because it is home - a small island with a big heart

What an inspirational location
Aug 2021
Five adults and three children spent in part a very relaxing, occasionally energetic few days on this wonderful island. As residents for several days, the peace and quiet and lack of motor vehicles was a great bonus. The shop and inn provided most of our needs although a pre-booked grocery order (two weeks in advance) enabled us to self cater as well. The accommodation was in an impressive house with most mod cons available although one has to allow for taking care in the use of water and that electricity is not on 24 hours a day.
The scenery is dramatic to say the least, and apart from one wet day we had unbroken blue skies. Don't forget to try some of the walks but bear in mind there is uneven ground and often many steps to negotiate. Look out for the old lighthouse and church which are worth visiting.
The only negative comment is that the sea could have been kinder to us on our journey across, as choppy seas left most of our party the worse for wear with sea sickness. However returning by helicopter was another brilliant experience albeit at extra cost.
Our base in Ilfracombe was Mullacott Farm which is both convenient and most welcoming, and providing somewhere to leave the cars. Their packed breakfasts in these Covid circumstances were very generous.

A wild place.

Cheap beer and food in the pub and friendly staff. Also other visitors to Lundy were friendly. Only downside was the wind it made the tent noisy, i should have taken some earplugs.Geoff Woods.

Appalling management: visit Northumberland instead
Aug 2021
I camped. Campsite was on a hill! Kept rolling off my mat. Noise from a diesel generator meant no sleep at all.
Toilets were shared m/f - no privacy
Shop failed to serve sandwiches or any food for campers. But miraculously food appeared for day trippers.
Shop failed to sell small camping gas canisters for backpackers or seasick tablets, even though people were ill on the ferry (which was built for the Rhine)
Water is/was undrinkable.
Bar kept running out of food, especially the one vegan option and one day even baked potatoes!
Island was taken over by people doing a birthday who took over the one pub for two of the three nights. Even less food for all and less places to sit.
Dogs kept on the island bark all night, kept in cages, only let out half hour a day. Reported to RSPCA. Staff completely okay with this, apparently.
Staff obsessed about people disturbing the seals even though dozens of companies in Ifracombe and online sell ‘swimming with seals’ as an experience.
This is money-making on a big level. Charged £28 a night for camping.

I was sorry to hear that you hadn't enjoyed your stay on Lundy. However, your review is an extremely skewed view of a trip to the island as past reviews will confirm. I note that all your other reviews are of a similarly negative nature. Anyone who has visited the island previously will know that whilst the campsite isn't perfectly flat, it isn't on a hill. The campsite facilities are indeed shared, as are many across the U.K. For a small offshore island, the shop is well stocked but can occasionally run out of certain things. However, so to suggest that there is no food available for campers is simply untrue. The shop provides provisions for visitors and islanders alike, sells both camping gas and seasick tablets and camping prices peak summer is £14. It's clear from your review that Lundy wasn't for you and I do hope you find a destination that better meets your requirements in future.

Beautiful Lundy
Aug 2021 • Couples
The journey was good, the ship asked people to wear masks and we were shocked at few people wore them.
Once on the island which is reached by a very steep hill it’s a beautiful place so peaceful and scenic.

We saw lots of seals along with lots of birds and butterflies.

There is a pub sadly not selling the best of Devon cuisine but ok for a snack.

There is also a shop which we didn’t use.

If in the area I would definitely recommend a trip here. Would love to come back and stay in one of the cottages.

A good day out
Aug 2021 • Family
Overall this is a great place to visit. The remoteness and wildlife is fanstistic so well worth a trip.

A few things to note :-

1) the ferry crossing can be very rocky. Even the hardy sea going will get a bit green. Sit towards the back of the boat is my advice

2) puffins are only on the island from May to July
3) take a packed lunch as the shop is limited alongside the pub (which can run out of things)

4) guided walk is free and very good. The Marshall are very knowledgable

A day trip to Lundy
Jul 2021 • Family
We went to Lundy from Ilfracombe after storm Evert. The sea state was “moderate” but many passengers were sea sick on the way out. Once on Lundy it is paradise. Very quiet, one pub and one shop. The wildlife is amazing and the walks along the cliffs to the north of the island is very special. The return journey was fine, no sea sickness as the sea state was better. A really beautiful quiet place.
