The priory is a ruin with a newer version built next to it. But the original which was part destroyed by Henry 8th when he tried to get rid of the church back in the day, still stands in the grounds of the new one...More

We visited Colchester Essex to review a Japanese Restaurant just last Saturday. On entering the town we parked in the Station Car Park adjacent to the town. On leaving the car park you are directed to the path through a ruin of a Priory, St...More

Visitors are usually surprised by the ruins of the former St Botolph's Priory in Colchester. It sits outside the town's Roman Walls in Priory Street, where there is a car park. Alternatively, as many visitors to Colchester do, alight at Colchester Town railway station and...More

Its in the town but its a nice place to get away from it all, have a picnic or just chilling out. There is a lot of history there, and its a great place to get some nice photo's if that's your thing.

There is a sign board providing some explanation of these ruins. They are cool to look at and easy to walk around. There is also a small cemetery on the same site.

They are just ruins, but if this is your 'thing', then they are great. It doesn't take long to walk around them, so worth a few minutes of your time.

If you enjoy visiting ruined abbeys and priories then this place is for you. It's another one of those that has fallen into disrepair over the centuries, and each one has its own little quirks to discover.

You need to read and observe here, as this is a ruin destroyed in the siege of Colchester, amazing workmanship can be seen and is well worth taking time and not rush away thinking your seeing a pile of rubble.
