Amidst the historical and important buildings at Stephensplatz is the noticeably more recent, modern and architecturally interesting Haas Haus building, which was designed by Austrian architect Hans Hollein in postmodernist style in 1990. With its peculiar shape and form, the building most notably comes across...More

This is well worth seeing if you've got an interest in architecture. It was designed by the Austrian architect Hans Hollein and is in a postmodernist style.

Really not a fan of modern architecture in the old city centres. Especially in Vienna's old city. Too modern and too much in contrast with surroundings, especially St Stephan's Cathedral. Building itself is rather nice, but location is not. Shame, just some hundred meters in...More

Designed by Hans Hollein, the Haas Haus is classic postmodernist architecture! The building is marmite- people either love it or hate it, owing to its contrast with the adjacent St Stephens cathedral. For me, it's well detailed and represents a quality piece of modern architecture...More

A glass building in a historical square. You can see zara in first sight on first floor. The nicest thing about this building is the reflection of adjacent buildings on the exterior surface

Found this and enjoyed the designs. Would have loved to gone inside.. It was after hours . And would enjoy knowing more about the architect. It's odd buildings hundreds of years old and then this modern building!

This postmodern monster vis a vis Stephansdom? Bad joke. I just don´t like modern architecture in the historical parts... especially next to the almost seven centuries old cathedral.

It doesn´t ruin the surroundings as much as the viewing platform does in the interior of St. Charles church.

The building is located just opposite the Stephansdom Cathedral and designed in postmodernist style which is, of course, completely contrary to the imposing cathedral. That is the reason why this work of Austrian architect Hans Hollein cause so many contradictions even today.

Generally, I like the architectural experiments and combining the extremal modern architectural elements into the historic places. As, for example the Louvre Pyramid or the London's Gherkin or Hundertwasser buildings. But this one is so brutal, heavy, ugly, clumsy, crushing and, most important, not connected...More

The bells are very loud in the square. Beautiful sound. We were staying at Hotel Konig von Ungard two blocks away but never heard them at night. So not sure if they don't sound or we couldn't hear them.
